Included were several quarter dollars; a copy of the Christian Messenger, Willamette Valley religious newspaper current at the time; a few faded pictures: a portrait, weathered almost beyond recognition: a Bible; a newspaper out of Kansas City: the constitution and bylaws of the Monmouth Silver Comet Band; assorted other papers and mementoes: a 5-cent piece, two silver dimes, one holed, and a U. S. half-dollar of 1871. probably the most valuable of the collection. The college at Monmouth was founded in 1856 as Oregon Normal school.
