Funeral services were held
at Weddle Funeral Home in
Stayton Wednesday at 10 a.
m. for Alfred Maurice Ward,
62, who passed away Sunday
morning in Santiam Memorial
hospital. Stayton.
Mr. Ward was born in Al­
bany and moved to Mill City
in 1914. He was a logger until
he retired a number of years
ago due to poor health.
Surviving are his wiefcw,
Nellie; one daughter. Mrs.
Frances Ann Phillips from Su­
perior, Mont.; two sons, Alfred
Jr.,and Robert both of Mill
City and one brother, William
Magg of Mill City and three
grandchildren.
Interment was in the Fair­
view Cemetery with Rev. Don­
ald Dishong officiating.
CATHERINE E. BOYD
Mrs. Catherine E. Boyd. 81,
of 2555 Edgewood Ave. N. E.
Salem, passed away on Mon­
day, January 26 in a Salem
Nuursing home.
She was bom near Grange­
ville, Idaho, where she was
raised on a ranch. She was a
school teacher for many years
before moving to Mill City
where she lived for 15 years
while her husband was in the
logging business. She worked
as an office worker while her
hueband was in the logging
business.
Survivors include the wid­
ower, Walter L. Boyd of Sa­
lem;; one son, Harold A. Boyd

LYONS—Herman P. Free,
72, of 1145 W. Washington in
Stayton and formerly of Lyons
passed away Sunday at San­
tiam Memorial hospital.
Mr. Free was from Minne­
sota and operated a garage at
Lyons for many years. He
tired in 1946 and moved
Stayton. He had operated
garage at Lyons.
Surviving are two sons,
Robert Free from Tigard and
Lloyd Free from Truckee, Cal.,
one sister, Mary Rita from
Milwaukie, Wise, and nine
grandchildren.
Rosary was held at 730 p.
m. at Weddle Funeral Home.
Mass was at 10 a. m. Tuesday
at the Stayton Catholic church.
Interment was in St. Mary’s
cemetery, Stayton.
