Mrs. June McPheeters was hostesses for the Wednesday afternoon card club, with Rose Bassett co-hostess, held at the McPheeters home. Five hun dred was in play following a onethirty dessert luncheon. High score was held by Mabel Downing, second high by Ber nice Bridges, and low by Alta Bodeker. Others attending were Katie Skillings, Zeta Prichard. Bertha Allen. Alma Olmstead, Bea Hiatt, Gladys Nygaard, Laura Neal. Doris Roy. Jaunita Davis, Katie Sieg, and Leota Worden. At the close cf playing cards their Christ mas party and gift exchange was held. PRC Jim Olmstead from Fort Bragg. N- C„ arrived Thursday to spend a 15-day leave at the home of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olmstead. He will report back to Fort Bragg January’ 2. The Lyons firemen held their annual Christmas party Saturday night, Dec. 19, with a Christmas dinner for the fire men and wives which was catered in from Stayton. An enjoyable evening was held with approximately 30 in at tendance. Mrs. Oue Hames of Portland spent the weekend at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Shuey. Mr. Shuey was taken back to the Sarrtiam Memorial hospital in Stayton Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bassett from Seattle, Wash., were weekend guests at the home of his father, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bassett. Her father, Otto Witt of Mill City, return ed home with them for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olm stead and son, PFC Jim Olm stead, visited relatives in Cor vallis, Philomath and Coburg Sunday. Rev. George Roseberry of Salem was in charge of the morning services Sunday at the Lyons United Methodist church due to the absence of Rev. Edward Springman who is spending the holidavs in In diana with his parents. Rev. and Mrs. Roseberrv were din ner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Julian. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Roye spent the weekend with rela tives at Cottage Grove. A large crowd attended the reception at the Marl-Linn school Sundav afternoon. Dec. 20. honoring Mrs. Hazel Wirth who is retiring after 17 years of teaching. The hall was dec cheerful, Merry Christmas. orated for Christmas and the members brought gifts to be sent tto the Fairview Home and gifts of home baked goods and candy for a gift exchange. The street light committee reported that there was still some owed on the lights and it would be appreciated if those who wished to make do nations wouuld do so soon. Dnations may be sent to the Women’s club. Marge and Frank Mrs. Raymond Branch, Mrs. Arthur Anderson and Mrs. Wolfkiel were hostesses for the Lyons, Oregon evening. The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 24 and at that time new officers will be elected.
