City Enterprise ON TiiHE SCENIC NORTH SANTIAM HIGHWAY — OREGON'S FAST GROWING VACATION WONDERLAND VOLUME XXV NUMBER 46 Up and Down The Avenue THE MILL CITY ENTERPRISE—MILL CITY. OREGON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 1970 Spooks and Goblins Out for Hallowee'n By Don Moffatt 4 Some mixup in the Portland mail or with our engravers caused our Hallowe’en pictures to arrive several hours late for publication last week. They are being printed this week in stead. Since these were taken we read where a 5-year-old child in Detroit, Mich., died of a heroin trick picked up when trick or treating. I just can’t conceive of any person so depraved that they would do such a thing to an innocent child. I can’t help but wonder what would happen in Mill City if one of the youngsters pictured on this page were to have suffered the same conse quence. I hope it never hap pens here—but regardless of where it happens, surely there must be some just punishment for such a crime. Marion Lake Area Stripped Of Comforts DETROIT—Tallies and fire places have been removed from around Marion Lake in pre paration for its absorption into the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness Area January 1. Much of what was once a fleet of more than 200 private boats still remains, but District Ranger Lee Boeckstiegel said many will probably be tobog ganed out on the snow. Deadline for removal of pri vate property from the lake area is December 31. Shortly after that Forest Service of ficials will assess the size of the clean-up job they will have to undertake when the snow melts, Boeckstiegel said. “There are 17 boats in the bottom of th lake and many boats will not be removed by their owners,” he said Monday. “We know of some boats that have not been used for eight years.” i Enforcement of wilderness regulations in the Marion Lake area, located about 15 miles southeast of here, has been de layed since 1968 by Oregon U. S. Senators Mark O. Hatfield It was all for fun Saturday night when the young, and Robert Packwood. $4.00 a YEAR — 10c a Copy Life Scouts Honored The three boys above, from left to right, Dick Gruver, Doug Gruver and Skye Shaw were presented with the rank of Life Scout at a Court of Honor held at the scout cabin here Thursday night.—The Mill City Enterprise photo. This information was given to The Enterprise in an interview with Chief Don Gil lenwater. Mayor Herb Peck had heard that some residents were under the opinion that these young men were paid by the city. All the expense for the program incurred by the city is $21 each for Work men’s compensation. The two cadets working now are Kenneth Goforth and Al len Severs. Both these young men volunteered their services to the city. They cannot make arrests, nor can they drive the police car.
