volumi ; xxv ON THE SCENIC NORTH SANTIAM HIGHWAY — OREGON’S FAST GROWING VACATION WONDERLAND THE MILL CITY ENTERPRISE—MILL CITY, OREGON THURSDAY, APRIL 16, 1970 NUMBER 16 I Up and Down ; The Avenue By Don Moffatt We hear a lot these days about the mess the Post Ot- flee Is In. During the time cf the illegal strike in New York, one postal employee who was out on strike was lamenting about not being able to live on his income of some $6,000 a year. The reason, he had nine children, cr at least as I re member that was his trouble. If any man wants to have that large a family, he should be willing to exert enough ener gy in other ways to raise his income, he shouldn’t blame it on his job. Maybe $6,000 isn’t enough money to live on ir. New York, but I have a feel ing that he couldn’t make it with that big a family no mat ter where he lives. Maybe Sen ator Packwood has the right idea about limiting the num ber of children we can raise. And while on this postal bit, I certainly feel that President Nixon is away off base in even suggesting a raise on first class mail to 10c. Why not put the burden on third class mail —that Is where the money is being lost today. First class mail, I have been told, Is pay ing its own way now, and why should we have to bear the burden of flooding the mail with material most postal pa trons wculd just as soon be without.
