ill City Enterprise P' _____________ VOLUME XXV NUMBER 11 ON THE SCENIC NORTH SANTIAM HIGHWAY — ORE» .oN’S FAST GROWING VACATION WONDERLAND THE MILL CITY ENTERPRISE—MILL CITY, OREGON THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 1970 —- Up and Down The Avenue By Don Moffatt It is an easy thing for all of us to complain about action taken by our city council, the board of educatkn, the volun- teer firemen, and the many people who do other civic jobs without compensation. I sup pose some people believe that members of the city council are paid far their services. This is not the case. All council men work fot FREE and do their jobs to the best of their ability. They not only attend the regular and special coun cil meetings, but they also have their commission appoint ments. I :ften think of the hours these men put in, work ing on solutions for us all. Have you noticed how many times you see Adolph Brun ner, for instance, out around town, and with a shavel in his hands, giving an assist where needed in keeping our streets In repair? He does this without charge to the city. I think each of us should give a vote of thanks to all these men who take their jobs seriously. May be we don’t agree with some of the things they do, but if we disagree, the best place to take our complaints is to the coun cil meetings. This is also the truth with the people who serve on the school board, or on the plan ning commission. Maybe we don’t agree with them on all things, but let us not be too critical, unless we have a bet ter solution to a problem, and unless we are willing to take on part of their responsibili ties. And for FREE, remem ber? I often think how lucky we are that we have a good volun teer fire department, too. No tice how quicklv they respond when called? They, too, are working for us f:r free. What a great country we live in when we have citizens who are willing to give of their time to protect our property. ■ 1 - ■ L ■■ — ■ ■ > !■ - Mike Golden Wins Cub Derby Race Santiam Wolverettes Seniors At Santiam After Scholarships $4.00 a YEAR — 10c a Copy - "g- Sunday was an exciting day for Cub Scout pack No. 49 in Mill City as they held their Derby race at the Eagles hall.
