THOMPSON Archie Lawrence Thompson who had been ill for the past twj years with cancer died February 25 at the Marian Home at Sublimity where he had been recently. Mr. Thompson was born Oc tober 24, 1906 at Minneapolis, Minnesota and received his ed ucation in Canada. He married Emma A. Wright February 15. 1938 at Corvallis where they lived un.tl com ing to Mill City in 1959. Mr. Thompson had been engaged in the Real Estate and Insur ance business for many years, formerly perating the Strout Realty company in Mill City. He had a number of land hold ings and other property inter ests in this area. He also own ed a sawmill at one time and engaged in the logging busi ness. Mr. Thompson was a former city council member. He was a member of the Unitarian Church. Mr. Thomp son had willed his body to the University of Oregon Medical school in Portland for cancer research. Anyone wishing to do so may contribute to the American Cancer society as a memorial to him. Survivors include his wid ow, Emma: son, Ralph A. Thompson; daughter- in- law Barbara and granddaughter Julie of Livermore, Calif. Sis ters, Pearl Husted, Alice Bail ey, Corvallis; brothers, Walt Thompson, Brookings and Gor don Thompson, Corvallis. March 12 will be the next meeting date f r the Santiam Canyon Extension Unit at the Gates Community Center. Mrs. Glenda Roten and Mrs. Molly Earsfn wil1 handle the topic ‘ Updating the Laundry”. It will cover new laundry aids, detergents, bleaches and enzy mes. Detroit Dam will shut off the flow of water on Thursday and Friday, March 5 and 6. This will affect the water supply in Gates from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p. m. The water tank will be filled both Wednesday and Thursday nights, but it is ad vised that people on Gates City Water keep a supply on hand in the homes.
