Santiam Memorial Still Giving Service To Community The following communica tion has been received this week from Yvonne Crandall, I director of nurses at Santiam | Memorial Hospital at Stayton. January 19, 1970 To whom it may concern: It’s “business as usual” at Santiam Memorial Hospital. | Though staggering a bit un der the load of false rumors, that have been rampant in the community, the hospital still has its doors open, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The nursing staff is doing | its usual fine job of nursing the sick. Surgical service, obstetrical service, laboratory and x-ray departments are all operating as usual. Emergency service is being covered despite the fact that we have only four doctors to do the job. It is a great help if the patient notifies the fam ily doctor before coming to the hospital for emergency care. Patients who were left doc torless are gradually being ab sorbed into other doctors’ prac tices. The people of the commun ity are to be highly commend ed for their patience and un derstanding, and for their con tinuing cooperation with the hospital. The hospital will continue to serve the community. “Saturday, January 24th, the Oregon Division of the Izaak Walton league of America will hold its Winter Directors Meet ing at the Keg and Platter Res taurant in Salem, Oregon,” an nounced David F. Smith, state President. “During recent months, much note has been taken of the crowding of Oregon’s State Parks, and their heavy use by non-residents, and the increas ed used of pickup type camp ers and mobile homes, on our highways and in the public areas of our state. This has produced varying views, with some citizens most indignant over the “invasion” of Oregon by the non-resident,” stated Smith. “The League is using its Winter Meeting as a platform to discuss the related subjects by a well qualified panel re presenting the state agencies involved, the mobile home and camper user, and the motel and commercial mobile home park interests." The luncheon speaker will be Glen L. Jackson, Chairman, Oregon State Highway Com mission. The panelists are Dav id G. Talbot, State Parks Sup erintendent: Dennis Clarke, Di rector.
