The stockings we hung by tne chimney with care— Are all taken dawn—and, in need of repair. And the children who dream ed in their soft downy beds, Have plums in their tum mies, instead of their heads. There’s a look of contentment, on each little face— For all through the house, not a thing is in place. I’ve searched the house over, but can’t find a thing— The floors are all covered with paper and string, And the rooms which before were so tidy and clean— Are now in disgrace—they’re a sight to be seen. The toys are all scattered, just about everywhere— And gifts are all stacked on each table and chair. There are candies and nuts, in the craziest places— But Oh. the sweet looks on those dear little faces.- As I gaze around the scene, in dismay I glance at the children, so happy at play Then I think—all too soon— they will be grown— Perhaps moving away, to homes of their own. And I will be left, with my neat little house— And nothing a stiring—not even a mouse. I know I will miss—all the laughter and noise, That always arrives—with the two little boys. I resolved then and there— that I’d not stew and fret But make it the happiest Christmastime yet— For all of the bother—and all of the mess, Just adds one more link— to my own happiness. tract of land immediately above U. The $18,000 price tag includes construction of an ac cess road, parking arei, and perpetual maintenance b y Clapsop County. The access area is located downstream from the Fish Commission hatchery. Big Creek Is noter! for its excellent steelhead and echo salmon runs. In other action taken at its recent meeting the commission added to its White River Game Management Area in Wasco County through the purchase of 230 acres of crop land and 744 acres of non-till- able land from Leo Schindler far $65,000. The purshase will provide additional winter range for big game animals. The commission agreed to purchase a 6-acre tract of land from the State Highway Com mission containing about 3 acres of water that can be de veloped into a warm-water game fishery. The tract is lo cated one-half mile north of Highway 80N about 15 miles west of Pendleton. Access to the water is by the Lorenzen county road. Canyon Creek Meadows im poundment in Grant County was discussed. The present dam will not hold water and the impoundment is dry. The commission instructed the staff to arrange for core drill ing at a possible new dam site upstream from the present location and to discuss with the U. S. Forest Service and Grant County the possibility of cost sharing the consruction of a new dam should such construc tion prove feasible. The commission announced that it will hold a hearing in January to set the opening dates for the 1970 big game and upland game seasons. The hearing date was tentatively set for January 9. Early action on opening date enables hunt ers to arrange vacation pe riods.
