Lyon* Card Club Has Yule Party LYONS — Members of the Wednesday afternoon card club held their party at the home of Bertha Allen with Doris Roye co-hastess. Follow ing a 1:30 dessert luncheon 500 was in play. High sc: re was held by Eulalia Lyons, second high by Alta Bodeker, and low by Helen Lyons. At the close of the card playing the annual Chilstmas party and gift exchange was en joyed. Others attending were Bea Hiatt. The bridal gown was of white satin brocade with wat- teau chapel train cascading from the back. Small self cov ered buttons adorned the front of the gown from the high r und neckline to the hem. A semi-cloche of white fur jield her train-length veil of il lusion. She carried a white fur muff to which were pinned red velvet streamers. Three attendants preceded the bride to the altar. All wore identical gowns of cranberry velvet, floor length with match ing velvet bows and net head pieces. Each carried a single I long stemmed white rose. A reception followed the cer emony in St. Marv’s dining hall. ’ The bride is a graduate of Santiam Union High School and Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Eugene. The grom is a graduate of Cascade Union High School. He is presently serving in the U. S. Navy alxxmd the USS St. Paul. The ycung couple will make their home at Ixmg Beach, California. A number of relatives and friends of the bride from Mill tCity attended the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Earhart of Mill City are announcing the engagement of their daugh ter, Rebecca Lea, to Robert Loftin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Loftin of Mena, Ark. The wedding will take place in June. Miss Earhart will graduate from Santiam High school with the class of 1970 and will then attend a business school in Salem. Mr. Loftin was graduated from Hatfield High sch ol in Hatfield, Kan., and is current- 1 y employed a t Stuckart Lumber Co. Local Ladies Attend Holiday of Homes at A large number of ladies from Mill City were in Stay ton Thursday afterno n where they attended the Santiam Me morial Hospital Auxiliary Hol iday Tour of Homes. Each of the three homes opened were of a different sty le with appropriate decorations in keeping with the holiday season. The first home was that of Mr. and Mrs. John Davis lo cated at 1230 Pine Street. Conducting the business session was the president, Mrs. Glen Cummings, with Mrs. Harry Mason as secretary. Six teen members were in attend ance. including a new mem ber, Mrs. William Byer. A report on the recent meet ing, called the Winter Confer ence, of the District Federa tion of Women"s clubs held at the Colonial House in Sal em was given by Mrs. O. K. DeWitt. Conferences for both the .Junior and Senior Club women were held,, with the speaker of the day Mrs. Ralph Sittel. first vice-president of the State Federation. It was announced that a list of available courses through the adult education center of the newly-named Chemeketa Community College in Salem had been received and anyone interested could have access to the copy. Several memlters had as sisted in recent work at the Tuberculosis and Health Asso ciation headquarters in Salem. They were luncheon guests of Mrs. Cyril Archer, club mem ber and former resident here, who now lives in a moble home at Paradise Island near Salem. Mrs. Dean Mowry distribut ed place-mats, depicting color ful Oregon scenes, which had been ordered by some of the clubwomen as gifts or for themselves. Mrs. Walter Thomas urged the membership to write to their legislators asking them to nullify the legislation to al low wider and longer trucks on Oregon highways, and Mrs. Cummings requested their si pport in correct labeling f grocery products as to all con tents and additives in food stuffs. The January meeting of the club will consist of a sack lunch at noon Tuesday, Jan uary 20, at the home of Mrs. Harry Mason. Entertainment for the even- ing included a clever game, “Gone Fishin’ ”, introduced by Mrs. Cummings; the exchange of Christmas gifts from under the decorated tree by a “mu sical chairs” idea; and the serving of colorful refresh ments by the two hostesses. Gifts were also brought for students at the Chemawa In- dian school near Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fair To Be Honored Sat. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fair will be honored at a reception on Saturday, December 27 at their home, 4167 State Street. Sal em on their golden wedding an niversary. Friends are invited through the press to call be tween 1 and 5 p. m. The coup le requests there be no gifts. Hosts for the reception will be their four children; Mrs. George Baker of Mill City; Mrs. Douglas Gamwell of Beaverton. Mrs. William Mil ler of North Bend and Ray mond Fair of Lebanon. There are also 15 grandchild ren and 11 great grandchild ren. Guy Fair and Mildred Sipp were married on December 27, 1919 at Hillsboro, Mr. Fair has worked as a logger most of his life living in various parts of Oregon. After retiring the couple ni-ved to Newberg and then to Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Art Kerr celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Saturday, December 20 with an open house at their home. Friends, neighbors, and rela tives called during the day to make it a happy occasion for the Kerrs. The event was arranged by their daugh ter, Bessie Criswell, son, Wayne Kerr, and their grand daughter, Laura Hirte. Mr. and Mrs. Kerr were married in Hillsboro on December 20, 1919 and lived in Cres well for a number of years before moving here about 24 years ago.—Photo by Stanley Ogden. Santiam Rebekahs To i Install January 10 Members of Santiam Rebek ah lodge held their regular meeting Wednesday evening with Bessie Jobe, noble grand, presiding. An application for membership was received from Pauline Brunner and she will be initiated after the first of the year. It was announced that there would be installation of offi cers on January 10th with Turner Ideal lodge to have theirs January 9th and Eva Rebekah lodge at Stayton to [ install January 15. Marie Stickney, district de puty president qualified all the officers for installation. Following the business meet ing a Christmas program and gift exchange was enjoyed by members and guests. Carols were sung, piano se lections played by Ruby Bris bin and a holiday skit present ed by Carmen Barnhardt and Mildred Carr. A reading, “Are you ready for Christmas” was given by Jean Roberts. The dining room and hall was gaily decorated for the holidays by Gertrude Weidman and Helen Johnston. Pot luck refreshments were served with T ni Thomas, Bessie Jobe and Carmen Barnhardt on the kit chen committee. Shelly Stewart To Marry Marine Private Doris Beth Stewart of Port land is announcing the engage ment of her daughter, Shelly Corina Stewart to Pfc Steven Allen Stalder. He is with the U. S. Marines stationed at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina and will leave soon for Cuba. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stalder. The bride-elect is a graduate of Roosevelt High school in Portland and is now employed as an IBM key punch opera tor. The groom-elect Is a 1968 graduate of Marshall High school. The couple plan to be mar ried next year but no definite date has been set. Miss Stewart is the grand daughter of Mrs. George Stew art of Mill City. ...and all good things that are a part of the season.
