New System Used at Mill City School

Don’t you sometimes get a
little sick to the stomach when
you hear about what a rich
nation we are? All this talk
about affluence comes amid
the strife of our cities. It
comes at a time when we here
in Mill City do not have
enough bonding capacity, or at
least we didn’t a short time
ago to finance a sewer system.
We are more lucky than some,
as we do have good streets and
good schools. Seme of our peo
ple have a tough time of mak
ing both ends meet. Some of
this is their own fault because
they will not work unless it
is a job of their own choosing.
They feel the government will
take care of them. Possibly,
but it surely isn’t the true
American way. I don’t think
the homeowners can be called |
tax stingy, but they are be-!
coming disenchanted
with |
sending their prime tax money i
to Washington, where it is
often spent unwisely.
I know that school teachers
and school systems have quite
a job on their hands—that of
educating our children. The
thing that surprises me the
most is how many of our
young people know so little
about grammar. I hear stu
dents, even in high school
who still say “me and you,” or
“them things” for example,
and various other improper
grammatical uses, that I was
taught in the grades. We send
these young people to college,
and some of them should still
be in high school, as far as
their ability to speak properly
or read and assimilate what
they read. I don’t mean by this
that all our young people are
nit-wits or uneducated. That
is not the case, but unless we.
as parents, wake up to the
fact that the children must be
given some basic training at
home, they’ll be left out in the
cold when they are older. We
must start them out on the
right track to begin with, and
stick with them, or the teach
ers will continue to have two
strikes on them before the
child reaches school age.
We see now where some feel
that public campaigning for
office is becoming too danger
ous, that presidential candi
dates and others seeking high
office will have to keep off the
streets and resort to television
to put their campaigns across.
I think it Is a sin when a
country, which is supposed to
be so highly advanced cannot
control the minority of bums
we have. We’ll just have to
treat the bums like the animals
they are It is regrettable when
candidates can’t make public
appearances without the fear
of someone shooting at them.
I think the time has come
when we deal in the ancient
manner of an "eye for an eye,
and a tooth for a tooth.” If
we’d eliminate some of this
violence, by dealing with
some dissenters with like
VIOLENCE
I believe
it would stop a lot of this non
sense. About all we do now is
give them a big play in the
newspapers and on radio and
television, making them feel
like big shots. When we have
a mad animal, we destroy it,
so why not do the same thing
when this type of person goes
sour? We certainly can’t rely
on our courts any more. 1
know right now, there will be
a lot of “do-gooders” who’ll
wring their hands when they
read this, but I'd like to see
the country returned to the
law-abiding citizens and not
turned over to the hoodlums.
