They also went to Las Vegas, Nev ada. they had a wonderful time but didn’t come home richer than when they left. Mr. and Mi's. Harold Hostet ler taok Mrs. John Hershberg er back to her home in Seat tle over the week-end. She had been visiting here and trans acting some business. The two ladies are sisters and have been spending considerable time with their mother who is hos pitalized in Seattle. Report on District Meeting Heard at Woman's Club Meet Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Oh mart of Salem are the parents of a son, James Douglas, born Monday, October 20 at Salem General Hospital. The little boy weighed seven pounds and 9 ounces. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Rex Ohmart of Mill City and Raymond Duffy and Mrs. Dorothea York of Salem. Great Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Duffy of Mill City and Mrs. R. H. Poff of Salem. Nineteen members and guests were in attendance at the meeting of the Mill City Woman’s club held at the home of Mrs. Alex Burrell Tuesday evening, with Mrs. Leo Russell and Mrs. Dean Mowry assisting with hostess honors. Special guests includ ed Mrs. William Beyer, Mrs. Herbert Peck, Mrs. O. M. Mikkelsen, and Mrs. Kate Doble. Presiding over the business session was the vice president, Mrs. Walter Thomas, in the absence of the president, Mrs. Glen Cummings, assisted by the secretary, Mrs. Harry Mason. Mrs. Leo Russell gave the treasurer's repot. It was announced that the fall convention of the Marion County Federation of Women's club will be held Thursday, October 30 at the Maplewood Grange hall with the Aurora Woman’s club as hostess. Sev eral from here plan to attend. Another date mentioned was November 4 when two speakers on the current drug problem will appear at 7:30 in the evening in the Elementary School gymnasium. Edith Mason reported on a recent meeting of the Child ren’s Farm Home board which she attended at the Home near Corvallis. Sports equip ment and cash are needed at the home. Report on a Fourth District meeting held October 4 in Sil verton was given by Mrs. John Swan and Mrs. 0. K. DeWitt. Miss Daisy Geddes also was present. An enlightening talk on the drug situation was given at that time. It was announc ed that the TV picture, “Bye- Bye, World,” will be repeated from 4:30 to 5:30 October 26. Mrs. DeWitt has arranged for the Fourth District to meet here April 11 for its Spring meeting when the local club will lie hostesses. The No vember meeting of the club will be held at the home of Mrs. Charles Kelly with Mrs. George Davis and Mrs. Lee Ross helping. A request was made by Mrs. Don Carlson for additional sponsors for the Camp Fire Girls with seven ladies re sponding. Three had already signed up. Scenic place-mats were ord ered, depicting Oregon scenes, for the club members to sell before Christmas as a money raising project. Several women agreed to as sist at the TB Health head quarters in Salem November 20 and December 9, the project toeing Christmas seals. Mrs. Dean Mowry was in charge of the program when she spoke on Community Im provement and Civic Affairs, attempting to interest the club in sponsoring an evening to coordinate a “Congress for Community Progress” among the business people and organ izations. A decision will be made at the next meeting, ac cording to the interest shown. Ozzie Mikkelsen Is New Lions Member At an impressive induction ceremony conducted Monday night by President Fred Kreck- low. Ozzie Mikkelsen officially became a member of the Mill City Lions club. In other action, the club members each gave $1 to lie used in the CARE program. Zone Chairman Martin Han sen reported that it was the desire of District 36R to raise enough money through the clubs to build a school in some foreign country. Teachers Doris Williams and Wallace Hovey wanted their students to have a chance to study the fascinating crea tures of the sea. At the Center they met with Hal Crawford, aquarist, who showed them a series of slides explaining the research work being done by the scientists at the facility. They then took part in a programmed guide sheet tour of the Museum- Aquarium where they learn«!, in addition to biology, some thing about such topics as cos tal geology, our continental shelf, tides and tidal forces, Oregon marine resources, the circulation of ocean waters and energy1 cycles in the sea. In the Center’s open tide p<xd many of the 43 students took the opportunity to learn what creatures like sea ane- m nes, sea urchins, starfish, snails and crabs felt like.
