At Hiatt Home
LYONS — Bea Hiatt and
Gladys Nygaard were hostess­
es for the meeting of the
Lyons Garden club held at tne
Hiattt home Wednesday after­
noon. Roll call was answered
by telling what was needed
to do in gardens this fall.
Plans were discussed for the
November meeting and each
member is to bring ideas for
Christmas, Mrs. Nellie Riggs
and Mrs. Dorothy Downer
were appointed the nominat­
ing committee to select offic­
ers for the new year. At the
close of the meeting each mem­
ber showed and told the his­
tory of an antique they had
brought for display.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brady
sent in a renewal to The En­
terprise recently so they could
keep up with news of their
many friends here. The Bradys
said they missed the people
and organizations in Mill City
but were adjusting to their ac­
tivities in Cottage Grove.
Paul is looking forward to
a winter of fishing and river
running along with his Forest
service job requirements. Con­
nie said the youngsters had en­
joyed the city swimming pool
this year which is just two
blocks from their home.
Pau) belongs to the Lions
club at Cottage Grove but
said it was mainly a “noon
luncheon club.” Connie is
looking forward to joining the
Toastmistress club which is
being chartered this fall.

at the Gates Community cen­
ter last week with Shirley

serving as the project leaders.
Topic was “Know the truth
about foods.”

Rosie Cupps will serve as sec­
retary of the group replacing
Carol Ohrt who resigned. Leo-
nara Cutsforth acted as chair­
man of the meeting in the ab­

Board To Meet
STAYTON — The Board of
Directors of the Santiam Me­
morial Hospital Auxiliary will
meet at 1:30 p. m. Thursday
October 16 in the Conference
room of the Hospital. Mrs. Er
cil Wilson is president of the
Auxiliary.
Mrs. Rita Cruson and Mrs.
Margaret Philipps are dele­
gates to the Oregon Hospital
Auxiliaries Convention sched­
uled for October 19 and 20 at
Surftides, Newport. Mrs. Marie
Hottinger and Mrs. Lorena
Stevens are alternates.
The 5th grade Camp Fire
Girls with their leaders, Glor­
ia Urban and Bonnie Kreck­
low, assisted by Karen Howell,
left last Friday for Camp Kilo­
wan. They stayed all night at
the Bluebird lodge, cooking
their own meals, going on a
hike to a 30-foot falls and at­
tending Potlatch at the camp
on Saturday.
Other groups from Mill City
attending were those of Joyce
Trout, Bobbi Budlong, and
Shirley Hoover’s 4th grade
group of girls. Cleta Wills and

with their leader, Jane Mink.

Mehama Club Plans
For Christmas Giving
MEHAMA — The Mehama
Women's club met at the Me­
hama fire hall Thursday even­
ing, Oct. 9 Mrs. Lilly Wolf
kiel, vice-president presided at
the meeting in the absence of
the president. Mrs. Chris King.
The members voted to make
the usual donation to the
Children’s Farm Home and the
T B. Association. It was de­
cided to have the December
meeting and Christmas party
on Dec. 10. The usual gift ex­
change of home baked food on
candy will be held and mem­
bers are asked to bring un­
wrapped gifts for the patients
at the Fairview Home. Mrs
Grant Smith was the winner
in the gift drawing

A purvey of school enroll­
ment at all levels from nur­
sery school through college
will be conducted in this area
by interviews of the Bureau
cf the Census during the week
of October 19, according to
John E. Tharaldson. Director
of the Bureau’s regional office
in Seattle.
Local interviewing will be
part of a nationwide effort
made annually to measure the
Nation’s school and college
population. A similar survey
in October 1968 showed total
enrollment to be 58.8 million
persons—33.8 million in elem­
entary school, 14.1 million in
secondary school, 3.3 million in
kindergarten, 816,000 in nur­
sery school, and 6.8 million in
college.
The survey will be made a-
long with the monthly nation­
al survey of employment and
unemployment for the Bureau
of Labor Statistics of the U.S.
Department of Labor which
furnishes a basic measure of
national economic health.
Information collected in Cen­
sus Bureau surveys can be us­
ed only to determine statistical
totals, and facts about each
person and family are kept
confidential by law.
Interviewer who will visit
households in this area is Mrs.
Patricia Baker of Salem.
