VOLUME XXIV
Up and Down
The Avenue
By Don Moffatt
People who woke up Sun
day morning, were wondering
if we were going to have a re
peat of the famous Columbus
Day storm of a few years back.
Fir cones, leaves and other
fall debris littered yards and
streets here. It is a little dis
gusting especially when some
homeowners, m e included,
spent Saturday afternoon mow
ing and sweeping things up
around their homes. It all was
for nothing after the wind got
through with things. This Mon
day morning we have heard jf
no damage locally.
It seems that homeowners
have a battle all year. In the
spring it is cleaning up after
winter, fertilizing, renovating
lawns. Then comes the contin
ual task of mowing, weed kill
ing. raking, and watering all
during the summer months,
then the fall cleanup. It is a
battle to keep the premises in
shape. Oh, well, some of us
need the exercise, but some
time- I wonder if it is worth
it.
