Spec’fic locations
hunters will be assured suc-
cess on sage grouse are diffi
cult to pinpoint, say biologists,
since these big upland birds
move about regularly and dis
tribution is so widespread.
Hunters should look for the
short sage country in the open
flats and rolling slopes.
The Blue and Wallowa
mountains are the main haunts
of grouse in eastern Oregon,
with the blues found mainly
on the ridgetops and the ruffed
grouse in the brushier stream
bottoms and side canyons.
Some good shooting is pre
dicted in the Imnaha area,
Chesnimnus, Sled Springs, and
the Umatillas. If hunters can
find the right ridges, they can
expect some good hunting also
in the timbered areas of the
Burnt, Powder, and John Day
drainages.
