Boy of the Month
Lynn Cutsforth, a Junior at
Santiam High School has been
chosen Boy of the Month for
April. His parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Gael Cutsforth of Gates.
Lynn has participated in
Football for three years, on the
Honor Roll, Junior Class Re­
presentative to Student Coun­
cil. Prom Escort and he will
be the new Senior Class Presi­
dent next year.
When Lynn graduates from
Santiam, he plans to attend
Oregon Technical Institute in
Klamath Falls and be a Diesel
Mechanic.
Body Found In
Little North Fork
The body of Wayne Valley,
25. Oregon State University
senior who drowned in the
Little North Fork of the San­
tiam River last Sunday was
recovered Saturday morning.
Valley, a 6 foot, 6-inch 250-
pound OSU football player
drowned at Salmon Falls while
swimming in the cold river
heavy with recent snow run­
offs. State police recovered his
body just downstream from the
falls, which is located about 14
miles east of the Highway 22
Junction.
The 'body was taken to Wed­
dle’s mortuary, Stayton.
Jayceettes Plan For
July 4th Activities
The Jayceette meeting was
held Thursday at the home of
Mary Ann Nicholas with Joyce
Trout presiding at the meeting.
Plans were discussed for
the 4th of July parade with
the Jayceettes in charge of the
Kiddie parade which will start
this year at the parking lot by
the old theatre building. School
district officials have given
their okey to its use.
Pam Morris reported the
first work party on the float
will take place on June 2.
Barbara Penrose and Pam
Morris reported that those at­
tending their pinochle party at
the Jaycee hall had a good
time. Proceeds were used to
benefit the toy drive for the
mentally retarded. Attending
were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Big­
ness, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Mor­
ris. Mr. and Mrs. Hurston Nich­
olas, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Pen­
rose, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ter-

presenting the Lion’s Auxil­
iary. The two groups are work­
ing on ideas and schedules for
the concessions and booths in

meeting will be June 5 at the
home of Gloria Paulsen.

Set For May 27
Pre-school registration is
scheduled for May 27th at the
Mill City Elementary School.
It should be recognized that
this registration is very im­
portant to both your child and
the school. By having the en­
rollment figures the school ad­
ministration knows how many
classrooms will be needed to
adequately serve the children
next September. All children
entering the first grade from
Mill City and Gates are to be
included in this pre-school reg­
istration. Parents may register
their child between 8:00 a. m.
and 4:00 p. m. on the above
date. Medical and dental forms
will be available and it is re­
commended that a birth certi­
ficate be presented at the time
of registration. Children who
will be 6 on or before Novem­
ber 15, 1969 are eligible to att­
end public school in Oregon.
If the parent does not have
the birth certificate for his
child information is available
at school on how this may be
obtained.

DETROIT—Officers for the
newly formed Businessmen’s
Association of the Upper North
Santiam Canyon were elected

week when the group met in
the social room of the Idanha
fire hall.
Heading the group as presi­
dent is Frank Hancock. Oth­
er officers are John Cook, vice-
president, Mrs. Arthur White-
ley, Sec., Mrs. Wayne Crist,
treasurer.
Hancock said committee’s
would be set up at the group’s
next meeting. Guest speaker of
the evening was Floyd Lacey,
who is with the office of the
State Higfhway Dept, in Sal-
em.
Hancock said Monday, one

At Meeting Here
Dr. Dale Parnell, superinten­
dent of public instruction who
was scheduled to speak last

tend. He was represented by
his assistant Dr. DeLos Wil­
liams who gave an interesting
talk on Taxation and Educa­
tion.
There were about 60 people
attending the talk which was
given at the Mill City elemen­
tary school.

Graduation May 29
There will be 36 seniors in
the class of 1969 at Santiam
High with graduation set for
Thursday, May 29.
Commencement speaker will

tion will be given by the Rev.
John DeMain of the Methodist
Church.
