Charles Kelly, genial Mill City postmaster, observed his 25th anniversary in office on Wednesday, February 12. He took office under the Roosevelt I administration. A quarter of a I century in one place is not a too common record. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd East wood spent two days last week at the coast. They said the weather was on the wet side but they had a good “winter break”, just relaxing. Sunday visitors at the Eastwood home were their son-in-law and dau ghter, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Tuers. He is a junior at OCE. .Mrs. Chris Barker and Mi’s. Ellen Rust spent three days last week at the Queen of Peace Retreat at Beaverton. They said the weather there was very nice and they return ed home very much rested. Mr. and Mrs. Rocky Moore were in Vancouver, Wn., over the weekend visiting many of their relatives in that area. Mr. and Mi's. Cris McMann of Hillsboro were guests Sun day at the home of her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Mof fatt. They took in the Meham Firemen’s breakfast, then went over the mountain for the balance of the day. The young people were impressed by the amount of snow in the mountain area. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Crowd er of Lake Oswego are the parents of a daughter, Chris tine Rinnell, born January 21. The little girl weighed seven pounds 10 ounces. Mrs. Crowd er is the former Cara Lee Whitten and Mr. and Mrs. Noyes Whitten of Mill City are grandparents of the new arrival. Friends of Rev. and Mrs. Stanley Williams have receiv ed word that Rev. Williams has accepted the position of Resident Minister of the Wood haven Christian Home for Children at Colombia, Missouri. He began his duties on Jan uary 2. Mrs. Williams and the child ren will continue to live at Rockyford, Colorado until school is out when they will join Rev. Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Peter son spent last Tuesday in the Detroit area sightseeing and taking pictures of the deep snow. Heart Sunday To Be Observed Feb. 16 The heart fund chairman, Charles B. Huitz announce« that this weekend local Heart Sunday volunteers will be vis iting their neighbors to distrib ute heart-saving information and to receive Heart Fund con tributions. in advance of their arrival, you may wish to ponder the extent to which cardiovascular disease is a local problem. Chairman Fultz asks that residents onsider these facts: 1. Here, as elsewhere in the nation, the heart and blood vessel diseases are responsible for about 54 per cent of all deaths. 2. In our county, like most others, about one person in nine suffers from some form of heart and circulatory dis ease. 3. The economic drain is staggering in terms of hospit alization costs, medical ex penses, physicians’ services, lost time and lost taxes. In short, he says, this is your problem. It is everybody's problem. Upper Canyon Teachers To Attend Portland Conference Next Week DETROIT — A conference sponsored by the Oregon Small Schools program for adminis trators of small high schools and IED Superintendents is scheduled to be held at the Sheraton Motor Inn, Portland, Feb. 17 and 18. Theme of the conference will be Improving the Self Concept of Teachers and Students. Dr. Sterling G. Ellsworth, a clinical psychol ogist from Eugene will be the featured speaker. Dr. Ells worth will also work with small groups and individuals during the day-long session. He will conclude the day with an informal question and answer period. Dr. Dale Parnell, State Supt. of Public Instruction will be the featured speaker at the dinner meeting Monday even ing. The Unit was sponsored by the American Legion Auxili ary. Assisting the unit were Mrs. Carolyn Gardner, Mrs. Edith Bittner, members of the Auxiliary and Mrs. Opal I Aim ing, president of the Auxiliary. Coffee and cake were served to all of those who called at the market following the units service, through the courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Leffler, owners of the market.
