Maryanne from Pierre, South
Dakota spent several days
tills week at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Bassett. Mrs. Dale Bassett and
son from Seattle, Wash., was
also a visitor at the Bassett
home., She is spending this
week at the home of her par­
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Witt
at MUI City.
Mrs. Esther Emery from
Westville, Illinois, arrived at
the home of her daughter and
family Mr. and Mrs. Alvin
Palmer, Saturday, where she
plans to spend some time.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Palmer
have received word from their
son AM3C James Palmer who
is stationed at Ankara, Tur­
key that he has been promot­
ed to Sgt. Their other son,
Ronald Palmer, is stationed at
Lowry Air Force Base at Den­
ver Colorado where he is at­
tending school.
Guest speaker at the Lyons
United Methodist Church Sun­
day, August 18, will be Paul
R. Goeller, from Willamette
University. He is a senior
philosophy major and also a
pre-seminary student.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Ward
and two children Mark and
Julie from San Diego, Califor­
nia visited relatives in Lyons,
Wednesday. They were lunch­
eon guests at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Alex Bodeker, Mrs.
Ward is a niece of Mrs. Bode­
ker and Mrs. Clyde Bressler.
Clarence and Bill Dough­
erty of Salem were Wednes­
day afternoon visitors at the
home of their sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Mike Fink.
Mr. and Mrs. Reith Walls
spent several days at the
home of Mrs. Flossie Evans.
They had just returned from
a three year stay in Guam
where he was stationed with
the U. S. Navy. They were en­
route to Corpus Christi, Tex­
as where he will now be sta­
tioned. Mrs. Walls is a step­
daughter of Mrs. Evans.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Julian
returned home Saturday, Au­
gust 10 from a trip into Can­
ada. They left Lyons, Sunday
July 28, traveled into Canada
over the Yellowhead highway,
the route of the Overlanders.
They went through Mt. Rob­
son and Provincial Parks, the
highest peak in the Canadian
Rockies. Spent three days in
Jasper National Park, then
down the Columbia Icefield
Highway to Lake Louise.
Were there for two days and
on to Banff for two davs. Re­
turning home by the Okanog­
an Valley where they travel­
eel through irrigated orchards
of peaches, apricots and cher­
ries for 350 miles. Coming to
Washougal, Wash, where they
were Friday over night guests
at the home of his brother,
Mr. and Mrs. Rex Julian and
on home Saturday.
A meeting of the pre-school
mothers will be held Tuesday,
evening September 10 at the
Mari-Linn school. This meet­
ing is just for the mothers of
five-year-olds, the following
week announcement will be
made for a meeting of four-
year-old mothers. Anyone
wishing information regard­
ing the pre-school may call

was hostess to the Jordan and
Mill City Garden Clubs with
a one o’clock dessert luncheon

lowing the luncheon a tour of
the beautiful Weidman gard­
