Attends Science
Institute in Ky.
One of the 97 science teach­
ers selected from 20 states to
attend the eight-week Na­
tional Science Foundation
Summer Science Institutes
for teachers of science recent­
ly completed at Murray State
University, Murray, Ky., is
Bob Williams, teacher at San-
tiam High.
Participants enrolled in two
courses selected from the
fields of biology, chemistry,
earth science, or physics, and
excellent progress was made,
according to the director, Dr.
W. E. Blackburn, Dean of
the School of Arts and Sci­
ences at the University.
In recognition of interest
in teaching science, Mr. Wil­
liams was selected from a
large number of applicants to
receive this training which
carried a stipend from the
National Science Foundation.
The purpose of the Institutes
is to assist, teachers in pro­
viding subject matter neces­
sary for effective and stimu­
lating instruction, including
recent advances in science.

Field trips, laboratory studies,
and experiments featuring
the “do it” approach received
emphasis in order to help the
teacher interest his students
and channel them into careers

Recreation Area, the Calvert
City industrial area, and
plants of the Tennessee Val­
ley Authority.

placed at the disposal of the
participants.
