Well, the Republican con
vention is a thing of the past
ami soon the Democrats w ill
be in the limelight I’m not
going to bet on the outcome
of that as I just lost a steak
dinner on the other. Don t
really lose (only money!) on
a bet like that as we get to
partake of the steak while
feeding the other guy.
We spent the week-end in
Central Oregon and again will
say how much I like the cli
mate—of course missing our
own fir trees and cool (not
today) moist air. But every
one has a certain spot that
really gives them a sense of
complete relaxation - or should
have, and that happens to
clear the cobwebs from my
head. Can hear the boss say
ing—“so what’s your excuse
today?”. Its Monday—which
everyone seems to have a pho
bia about, workwise.
my little thoughts running
around in my head and com
ing out on paper—thinking of
sermons makes me think of
the Ten Commandments and
that in turn reminds me of
an article in the Cottonwoods
Chronicle now published by
our good friend, Lloyd Rose.
Think it bears repeating.
TEN THOUGHTFUL WAYS .
1. Never attend any meet
ings. Just sit around and crit
icize the way “They" are do
ing things.
2. Vote against any kind of
tax levy—whether the pur
pose is good or not.
3. Make fun of the fire and
police department. “They” are
just out there for the glory
and pay.
4. Don’t ever go to the mov
ie, school concert or ball
game, benefit program, or ex
hibit. Sit in a half-trance in
front of the “idiot box.’’
5. Knock your city council.
This is a must. Every one of
them is just on the council
to get a little kickback.
6. Stay out of church. You
might go on Easter and Chirst-
mas just to prove to yourself
that the minister does not
know what he’s talking about
and everyone there is a hyp
ocrite.
7. Buy everything you can
out of a discount catalog or
mail order book. These firms
are the first to come forth
with donations and service
to the community.
8. Don’t support your town’s
newspaper. The out-of-town
papers are a lot better and
contribute much more to your
own town than the local bu
gle. But jump on your paper’s
editor the first time Aunt
Hegatha’s visit is left out—
forget the other 10 times is
was in.
9. Spread any story or rum
or which is defamatory or un
complimentary about the
town. Never say nothing nice
about nobody. All kids are de
linquent, all businessmen are
crooks.
10. Above all, always be
skeptical and cynical about
anything supposed to be good
for progress and betterment
of the community. Your motto
should be: "If it’s good, it
can’t happen here.”
