It might be interesting to note some of the differences now and some 30 years ago when there were only 8,000 telephones in Marion county; population was 66,000 with 615 miles of rural electric power lines and 846 miles of rural phone delivery. However, it is still the can ning center of Northwest (as listed), Berry, fruit and vege table center; less than two miles from the ocean and not so cold in winter or as warm in summer as St. Louis. Breitenbush Mineral Hot springs was listed as world famous mineral springs and the annual rainfall showed 36.13 inches. Champoeg ws called the Plymouth Rock of the North west and 39 miles of the pav ed Pacific Highway were in Marion county. The map is at The Enter prise office this week if any one would care to look it over.
