G«n. Rei, anü ix>c. Div. Newspapers, U of O Library 97403 Enterprise ON THE SCENIC NORTH SANTIAM HIGHWAY — ORE GON’S FAST GROWING VACATION WONDERLAND VOLUME XXIII NUMBER 22 Up and Down The Avenue By Don Moffatt »»»»»»-»»»»«■»■«»■««» This Thursday, Memorial Day is a day of memories—a day when we should pause and pay tribute to those who have died for their country. We should think of our early history when the men at Con cord bridge and Lexington green died that this country might be free and strong. Sometimes we go far afield from the principles which our men have fought, and arc fighting for right now. Our country is becoming soft in many respects. Many of our people have lost all respect for law and order, and soon we should get back to the principle of working for a living instead of marching in minority groups trying to get the government to give them a handout. Good hard work never hurt anyone. Some of these young punks should try it. If they’d get their hair out of their eyes, maybe they could see the light. The Enterprise is going out early this week, so we, too, can enjoy our great National Holiday, and our Whitewater Challenge. Have fun. and take care of vourselves. THE MILL CITY ENTERPRISE—MILL CITY, OREGON Pacific Power Has Accident Free Record Albany district employees Pacific Power & Light Com pany have completed their fourth consecutive year of work without a single acci- dent resulting in time away from the job. John Kohls, PP&L’s local manager from Stayton, re ported that the safety record places the Albany district in third place among 39 PP&L districts and departments for most man-hours worked safe ly. Albany district employees have accumulated almost a millions hours of safe work —957,856 man hours of safety on the job. The last lost-time accident in the district occurred m May, 1964. “This outstanding record of safe work in a potentially hazardous occupation is the result of a combination of ap plied safety training tech niques and an awareness on the part of men of the need for safe and careful procedur es,’’ the manager said.
