LYONS Log Boom on Detroit Lake to Lessen Debris CHECK US FIRST By Eva Bressler Mr. and Mrs. Donald Olm stead and four children from Auburn, Wn., and Walter Olmstead from Everett, were weekend guests at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olmtsead and Jim. They came to attend the an nual alumni banquet and dance of Stayton High Sat urday night. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Titus and three sons from Renton, Wn., were weekend guests at the home of her mother, Mrs. Ethel Huffman. Mrs. Huff man, who has spent the last three months in Tacoma, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vernon Digerness and family returned to her home with them. They attended the alumni affair in Stayton while here. The regular meeting of San- tiam Valley Grange was held Friday night with John Shaf er master presiding. The us ual business was carried out with reports of committees heard. At the lecturers hour Mi. anti Mrs. Shafer showed pictures and told of their re cent trip to New Zealand, Fi ji Islands and Sidney Aus tralia. Mrs. Luther Miley and Mrs. Therman Smith sang two vocal duets. It was an nounced that on Saturday evening May 18, the Eugene Highlanders Bag and Pipe Band and dancers will he here to furnish the entertainment following a chicken dinner benefit sponsored by the grange beginning at 5:30 p. m. S. For est Service has asked for bids for the construction of a 1280- foot log boom to be. placed across the North Santiam arm of Detroit Reservoir Just east of the town of Detroit. The log boom will not eliminate the problem of debris a spokes man at the Ranger Station said, but will help to keep large debris out of the Res ervoir. The large debris is hazard ous to boats and water skiers. He said the boom will also reduce the cost of Spring cleanup and make continued cleanup much easier. He added, if this log boom is successful, future booms may be established on the Breitenbu.sh, Blowout and Kinney Creek arms of the Reservoir. All booms will have an opening for boat pas sage on the slack-current side for boaters, fishermen and water skiers, he said. Idanha Pre-Schoolers To Study Bible IDANHA — The classes of Bible School for pre-school children ages 4 to 6 will be held at the Idanha Commun ity Church under the direc tion of Mrs. Harold Roth. The classes are scheduled for May 13th through the 17th daily from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. Mrs. Roth will be assisted by two teachers and several assistants. Classes for school age children are scheduled for June 3rd through the 7th at the same time. DETROIT IDANHA By Boots Champion Sunday dinner guests at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Harold Roth were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Roth of Silverton. Mrs. Frances Rich ards, mother of Mrs. Roth, who has been visiting at the Roth home since last week plans to leave for her home in Canby Tuesday or Wednes day of this week. The two-day White Ele phant and bake sale held at Detroit City hall Friday and Saturday netted over $200, Mrs. Lyle Rogers reported Monday. The benefit sale was sponsored by the Detroit Christian Community church to help raise funds to pur chase furnishings for the church. A large crowd attended the annual talent show sponsor ed by the 'Deanha PTC in its annual scholarship drive. The program included many at tractions and several comedy acts. Donations and ticket sales netted $225 which will be added to the scholarship fund. Finishing the unexpired term of Mrs. Junior William son as secretary-treasurer for the Idanha Community church will be Mrs. Fred Taylor. The Williamsons are moving to Shelton, Wn., following the closing of school May 24. A typographical error was made last week in reporting of the low temperature read ing in the Detroit area in the annual month to month wea ther report. The low tempera ture reading was recorded as 25 degrees on April 13, not 2 degrees as stated in The En terprise. There will be a meeting of the Volunteer Ambulance As- bulance Association of Ore gon Friday, May 10th at 7:30 p. m. at the Fire Hall in Sil verton Five representatives from the Detroit Mobile First Aid Unit will be in attendance. Detroit won a victory ov er Colton in a League base ball game played there last Thursday. In Mondays game played here vs. Eddyville De troit hammered out 15 hits in scoring a 7-1 win over their opponents. Detroit will play Jefferson there Thursday, May 9th at 4:00 P. M. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Erickson for a few days last week were Mr. Erickson’s sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ceaser Garrido of Van Nuys, Calif. Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson of De troit entertained the Erick son’s and the Garridos with a dinner. Mr. Garridos works with the State Dept, in Mexico and they only recently purchased a home in Van Nuys. They left here Tuesday morning for Calgary, Canada on a busi ness trip. Mrs. Paul Hopson, of Idan ha who became suddenly ill Monday was taken to San tiam Memorial hospital. Stay ton, by Detroit Mobile First Aid Unit about 1:00 P. M. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Wright of Idanha are receiving feli citations on the birth of a daughter, born April 30th at Stayton. There will be a meeting of the Women’s softball team Monday, May 13 at 11 A. M. at Detroit Patio.
