During 6th period on Thurs
day, April 11th four students
and a moderator came from
the University of Oregon. The
Symposium debated on the
position of the U. S. in Viet
nam. Three of the students
were introduced as doves
while one was a hawk. The
Assembly was held in the
Grade School Auditorium
which made it more comfor
table for us and easier for the
Symposium to be heard.
April 12th club meetings
ing activity period, hut instead
were supposed to be held dur-
a Student Body meeting took
up the whole period. Several
announcements were made
concerning Student Body Of
fices. President Jack Johnson
stated that those interested
in running for an office could
receive petitions next week
from Secretary Kandee Hen-
ness. Next on the agenda Vic
kl Rush gave an explaination
of the proposed amendments
concerning cheerleading elec
tions. Then members of the
Student Council passed out the
ballots to vote. Mr. Boroughs
then spent the remainder of
activity period on the students
conduct at school and around
the community during school
hours.
Under coming events cheer
leading elections will be held
next Friday, April 19th. At
present only seven girls are
«igned up for Varsity. The
following Friday those girls
wanting to try out for Junior
Varsity will then try out. The
same procedure for try outs
will be followed as in the past.
Three girls names will be
drawn out of a hat, then the
three will do the group yell.
The group yell each year is
chosen and made up by the
Senior members of last years’
Varsity. After every girl has
done the group yell at least
7—The Mill City Enterprise, Thursday, April 18, 1968
once they then do a single
yell. This yell is to show orig
inality and what each girl
can do by herself. Each girl
will do the single yell twice.
Wolverines Win
And Lose Ball Games
The Wolverines dropped to
a 3-4 league record and a 4-6
season record as they defeat
ed Salem Academy 7-1 but lost
games to Gervais, Gladstone
and Jefferson.
In the Gladstone game the
Gladiators managed an 8-0
shut out victory over the Wol
verines. on the Wolverines
home field. In another home
game the Wolverines bowed
to the Jefferson Eagles 5-0.
In the only victory this week
the Wolverines trounced the
SalemSalem Academy Crusad
ers 7-1 in a game with most
of the Wolverines were hitt
ing and fielding very well. On
Saturday, however, the Wol
verines seemed to let down
again in a game which they
led until the 7th inning when
a walk and two hits scored
two of the Gervais players in
a 3-2 loss for the Wolverines.
Hitting leaders for this
week were Monte Lalack and
Boh Saltalamachia who are
batting .333 each, followed by
Bob Ward and Denny Cline
who have also been hitting
in this weeks games.

When Gallup polled
people about heating costs,
they said:

supports these nationwide heat cost
findings. Total utility costs for
all-electric homes were compared
with the total utility costs for those
heated with gas. On the average,
all-electric homes cost $46.24* less
to operate on an annual basis!

The answer came in response to
a nationwide heating survey con
ducted by the Gallup Organization,
famous for its Gallup Poll.
The Gallup people learned that
52% of the people heating with
electricity rate it “economical.”
Only 41% of the people with gas
heating systems said their costs
were "economical,” and oil systems
got the same rating.
Northwest findings agree
A recent comparative study of
300 Oregon and Washington homes
“Electric heat’s clean, safe,
comfortable”
The Gallup Study didn't stop
with economy. Here's what else was
learned about electric heat:
76% of the electric heat users
gave it a “clean” rating, cdmpared
with 53% for gas and 50% for oil.
And 75% of those with electric heat
rated it as “comfortable” compared
with only 66% for oil heat and 59%
for gas.
Nearly two thirds of the people
with electric heat ra'ed it “safe,”
against less than half of those with
flame-type heat systems. Electric
heat was clearly the preference of
those who know it best-the people
who use electricity to heat their
homes!
