Filled Baskets Area People lake Part in McKenzie River Event Mill City Stayton Lions To Have Show Tuesday, April 30 Frank Crow, president of the Stayton Lions club, said this week that his club would sponsor a benefit show at the Star Theatre on Tuesday eve ning April 30 at 6:30. The show will feature fam ed magician Ken Griffin, who is considered the Master Ma gician in the world with.his touring illusions. He has appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, You Asked for it and others and will present six acts in the hour show at Stayton. Among the num bers to be presented are the Buzz, saw, Decapitation, float ing princess and haunted to tem lodge. Proceeds from the show will go to the Lions sight conser vation fund. Mr. Crow said the Stayton Lions were hav ing a Ladies Night on Tues day, April 16 at 6:30 at the Santiam restaurarit. Dinner will be served at 7 p. m. with Representative Al Ullman the guest speaker. Over $182 was collected by the eight women, according to Ray Snelson, chairman. The ladies will collect in the areas missed during the remaining days of this week. Those collecting were Mrs. Mary Carpenter, Mrs. Char lene Cooper, Mrs. Betty Beth el, Mrs. Wilma Golden, Mrs. Hazel Gabriel, Mrs. Janet Lewis, Mrs. Carol Woods, and Mrs. Wilma Ragsdale. About $200 remains to be collected to put the fund over the top. Athletic Banquet Set for April 18 Alan Yankus, Dwayne Rosa mond, Denny Cline and Monte Lalack the Santiam Wolver ines captured their second league game by a 3-2 count ov er the Gervais Cougar Mon day at Gervais. The Wolverines first score came when Monte Lalack scored Denny Cline on a ground ball to third. The sec ond run came when Pitcher Alan Yankus solidly hit the bail into deep center field to score Terry Hansen from first. Alan was forced to go back to third base although he rounded al! four bases on a ground rule triple. The third run came when third baseman Terry Savage .sacrificed to score Alan Yankus. A fine performance was turned in by Bob Saltalama- chia in a Willie May style fielding effort. Attend Wedding At Lebanon DETROIT—Arriving home over the weekend to attend a wedding at Lebanon Satur day evening was Junior Wil liamson of Shelton, Wn. Accomanpied by his daugh ters, Misses Cecelie and Diane Williamson, the group attend ed the wedding of Mrs. Wil liamson’s nephew, Wayne Presley, who is home on leave from the Nnvy. Bride-elect was Miss Judy Porter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Porter of Leban- anon. Mr. Presley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Pres ley also of Lebanon. The wedding was held at the Southern Baptist church, Lebanon at 8 p. m. Playing the wedding march was Miss Cecelia Williamson, Idanha. The Athletic Banquet this year will feature a good meal | as usual, plus an outstanding I speaker and athlete in the; name of Jim Grelle. The year of the Olympics encouraged the Athletic staff to bring a speaker that has had a per sonal experience with the Olympics. Mr. Grelle was a member of the 1960 Olympics team competing in the 1500 meters. The 1968 year will find him striving again for membership on the team. This year the event will be the steeplechase, one of the most difficult running events on the Olympic program. Jim Grelle has broken the four minute mile more times than any other human in the world today, 21 is the exact number to date. He holds a time of 3.55.4 which is a very good time. The banquet this year will add all of the girl athletes which will make approximate ly 90 students out of 200 stu dents eligible for the banquet. The Banquet will follow the father-son and daughter theme and a nominal fee will be made to pay for the meal. The banquet will be held m the Grade School Gymnasium. Time of the banquet is 6:30 p. m„ Thursday, April 18th. Other speakers, the coaches of all of the sports will also perform on the speakers ros trum. It Is hoped that this will be the largest turnout in the history of the banquet. The high school would like to see all the fathers out to hon or their sons and daughters. The P.T.A. which ordinarily meets that nite has kindly moved their date to April 25. The Mill City Jaycees and Jayceettes had their installa tion banquet at the Riverview Cafe at Mehama Saturday ev ening. Serving as Master of Cemeronies for the event was Jim Girod. Robert Strawn, president of the Stay ton Jaycees was the installing officers for the Jaycees with Virgil Trout in stalled as president; Joe Ter- Louw, first vice president; Jim Girod, second vice-presi dent; Roger Penrose, secre tary and Mike Wilson, treas urer. Outgoing president, George Loveall gave his year- end report. He received his past president’s pin and also ati exhausted rooster pin and gift. Jim Girod was selected by his club as the Jaycee of the year.
