2—The Mill City Enterprise, Thursday, March 14, 1968 OES Has Friendship Lyons WCSC Plans Night on Monday For Birthday Luncheon Marilyn Chapter No. 145 O. E. S. met Monday evening for a stated meeting and Friend ship night. Escorted and introduced were Gordette Garton, grand committee members and Mar guerite Lowery, grand repre sentative to Utah in Oregon. Appointed to serve on the committee for Gordette Gar ton's reception on April 8 were Helen Johnston, Laurell Johnson, Sylvia Duncan, Tena Graham and Else Allen. Mrs. Lowery spoke briefly during Good of the Order. Mr. and Mrs. Hedlund of Gates and formerly of Washington were Introduced and welcom ed. Marllvn Club will meet March 26 at 12 o’clock for a potluck luncheon at the home of Mabel Yankus. The altar was draped in memory of Pearl Holthouse, a charter member who pass ed away February 23. Refreshments were served by Addie French, Gordette Garton, Marilee Lyness and Barbara Freeman. Mrs. E. L. Roye was hostess for the meeting of the Wo men’s Society of Christian Service held Tuesday after noon March, 5. Plans were made for the annual birthday luncheon to be held in the Methodist church dining room on Tuesday April 30, at 12 o’clock noon. Committees appointed were Mrs. Wilson Stevens, program; Mrs. Glen Julian, tables; Mrs E. L. Roye food; and Mrs. Clyde Bressler, publicity. Plans were also made and discussed to attend the Salem District meeting of the Womens Society of Chris tian Service to be held in Albany March 28. A nominat ing committee was appointed with Mrs. E. L. Roye, Mrs. Wilson Stevens and Mrs. Clyde Bressler to select new officers for the coming year. Plans were also made for a fellowship hour and pot luck supper to be held at the church on Friday night March 29 at 6:00 o’clock. Attending the meeting were Mmes. Leonard Cruson, Paul Pennington, Glen Julian, Clyde Bressler, Wilson Stev ens, Basil Wiggins, Alex Bod- eker, Freda Gruggett, Miss Lula Corry and the hostess Mrs. Roye. Darrar of Madras paid her official visit to San tiam Rebekah lodge Wednes day evening. There were visitors also present from Stayton, Molal la, Turner, Jefferson and the state of Oklahoma. A very entertaining pro gram was presented for the pleasure of the visitors with Antonia Thomas in charge of the degree work and Carmen Barnhardt the drill work. Juanita Emmerson spoke on the youth work being done in the area and Ada Plymale gave the story from the Ser mon on the Mt. by St. Math ew. A humorous skit was given by Carmen Barnhardt, Anton ia Thomas, Mildred Carr and Helen Johnston. The president gave a talk on the work of the order which was both entertaining and enlightning. June Bartow of Stayton, chairman of the Home En dowment Fund and Doris Knlling of Jefferson both spoke briefly. The attractive decorations in the hall and dining room were done by Gertrude Weid man, Helen Johnston and Mil dred Carr. Mrs. Darrar was presented a gift by the noble grand of Santiam, Blanche Syverson, which had been made by Mrs. Carr. Agnes Allen, District deputy president from Turner, pre sented Blanche Syverson and Santiam Women’s Golf club is starting their 1968 season with a “tee off” breakfast Tuesday morning, March 26, at 9 o’clock. This will be fol lowed by golf or bridge, de pending on the weather. This will give members a chance to meet the pro Tom Weir. He will answer ques tions and give the group in formation of interest to all. All members, and prospec tive members and guests are welcome. The next class is scheduled to begin Tuesday; April 2, from 7:30 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. at the Salem General Hospi tal. It covers the care of the mother before the baby ar rives, care of the newborn and the first year of life. Films, demonstrations, dis cussions, and practice sessions will be used to make the clas ses more interesting and in formative. Since the attitude of the father very definitely affects the well-being of mo ther and child, husbands are urged to attend. The series of classes will be taught by Mrs. Jean Carroll a public health nurse on the staff at Marion County Health department. For registration, call the Health Department at 364-8427. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bedwell Honored on 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bedwell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently. They went to Drain, where he prea ched a sermon honoring the church on their anniversary. Mr. Bedwell built the church at Drain about 15 years ago. Unknown to Rev. and Mrs. Bedwell, the congregation there had an anniversary cake and party for them, honoring their wedding date. HEAR! DAN LOWER Camp Fire Girl’s annual Can yon Date with Dad held March 1 at the Mill City Grade School Gym. Table decorations were made by the eight groups of girls and each group present ed a part of the entertain ment. Leaders were introduced following dinner. These in cluded Mrs. Richard Ricketts and Mrs. Rodney Sharp, se cond grade; Mrs. Bill Shep herd, third grade, Mrs. Rob ert Music, third grade; Mrs. Fred Krecklow and Mrs. Tom Drynan, fourth grade; Mrs. Don Jenkins and Mrs. Homer Gallion, fourth grade, Mrs. Kenneth Lawrence, fifth grade; Mrs. Roger Penrose and Mrs. Paul Brady, sixth grade, and Mrs. Roger Mink and Miss Cheryl Chailender, Junior High. Also Introduced were Leaders’ Association Secretary, Mrs. Dave Barn hardt and Candy Sale Chair man, Mrs. James Murray. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. James King of Sa lem. Mrs. King, South Mar ion District Director, present ed a slide show, "Camp Kilo wan in Action.” Other guests were Mrs. Marie Tolbert, president of the Mill City Women’s club, sponsors of the Camp Fire Girls, and members of the Women’s club, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hirte, who made possible the annual deer hide collec tion, Mayor and Mrs. Veryl Hoover and Mrs. James Mur ry, Candy Sale Chairman. The program, emceed by Mrs. Paul Brady, was attend ed by 160 dads. Camp Fire Girls and guests. The potluck dinner was served by members of the Woman’s club, under the di rection of Mrs. Edith Mason. Detroit Woman's Club Jayceettes To Save Can Labels Plants Shrubbery at Detroit Post Office Mill Jayceettes met March 7 at the home of Mrs. Nancy Girod. A report was given on the fashion show held Febru ary 29 Everyone attending the show was pleased and surprised at the number of fashions shown. A home products party has been plannned for March 28 at 7:30 p. m. at the Gates Clubhouse. Shirley Carver is chairman. The club members will be saving Flav-R-Pak labels which are good through March to raise money for the club. Labels can be turned in to Mrs. Shirley Carver. Nominations were held. The elections will be held at the next meeting March 21. Laura Wilson drew the door prize. Refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Girod. Centerpieces from the fash ion show were donated to the Santiam Memorial hospital to be used as tray favors. DETROIT — A beautifying program under the sponsor ship of the Detroit Woman's Civic Club got underway here last week, when the group beautified the strip between Detroit’s new post office and the city hall. A row of dwarf Juniper shrubery was plant ed bordering the parking strip of the new facility. The plant ing of berried (red) shrubery along side of the city hall will complete the project. The landscaping is under the supervision of Brunner Florists of Mill City. For the program Paul Brady, District Ranger of the Mill City Forest Service show ed a film and gave an inter esting talk. Mrs. Toni Thomas presided at the business meeting. The Spring Bazaar and Summer Flower show were discussed also the bus trip to Portland on March 21 to attend Gard ens on Review. There are still available, seats for any one interested in going.
