Ge«. Ref and Doc. Div. Newspapers, t' of O Library 97.(01 Enterprise ON THE SCENIC NORTH SANTIAM HIGHWAY — OREGON’S FAST GROWING VACATION WONDERLAND VOLUME XXII NUMBER 38 Up and Down The Avenue By Don Moffatt I think possibly this new highway law passed by the Oregon lawmakers this last session is really going to work. I am referring to the law recently in effect that requires slow moving ve hicles on two-lane highways to pull over at the first safe spot and let faster traffic go by- This Dast weekend we have been driving considerably, giving my brother Al, and his wife Mabel a look-see at our country. We have notic ed that drivers are really taking the law seriously—and about time too, I might add. There was only one instance this weekend that we noticed a pile-up of traffic and that was behind a large transport truck going up Highway 22 over the pass from the east. He could have pulled out at one place, but I suppose he would have lost what little speed he did have, so he stayed put. The traffic fin ally did get around him on a straight stretch. For the most part though, it appears that this law will really work. If it does, it certainly should reduce the number of these head-on crashes where a driver in desperation to get around a slow-poke driver, takes chances in passing. Time alone will tell if the highway patrolmen will really enforce the law. I for one, hope they do.
