S/Sgt. Russell Page left Sunday night for Mountain Home, Ida., where he will be stationed until he goes over seas. His wife and son will be staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Logan. A birthday celebration was held at the L. E. Logan home July 1 for their little grand son, Roger Page, who was a year old. In addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Page, guests were Mrs. Lo gan’s brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Mar tinson of Eugene, the Logan’s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Bevier and Shannon and Roger’s great- grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Peterson of Mill City. Sandra Duggan of Portland enjoyed 4th of July festivities at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Duggan. Other guests at the Duggan home were her mother and sister, Mrs. Leola Hurt and Mrs. Gloria Wolfe and family, all of Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur De- Vore of New Orleans, La., planned to return home after the 4th following a two-week vacation here. They were guests of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Lewin. This was the couple’s first visit here and they much en joyed the dryer, more mos quito-free atmosphere. Moffatt, a plumber and pipe fitter will be working out of Salem for the present. Mrs. Don Andrews and children of St. Johns, Wn., are visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. El mer Shaw. Attending the lovely silver tea given by the Santiam Hos pital Auxiliary last Wednes day afternoon, June 28, at the Rex Kimsey place between Mehama and Stayton were Mrs. J. C. Kimmel, Mrs. Mar tin Hansen, Mrs. John Muir, Mrs. Chas. Kelly, Mrs. Else Allen, Mrs. Alex Burrel and a friend, Mrs. Turner, from Stayton. The affair was held in the spacious gardens of the home, and a fashion show was put on by women and girls of the area, modeling apparel from Hagen’s of Stayton. Mrs. Inez Flanders and Mrs. Ruby Foldager of Montabello, Calif., are visiting here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Heller. Mrs. Foldager is a sister of Mrs. Heller and Mrs. Flanders a sister-in-law. Young & Morgan Get Timber Bids In Upper Canyon DETROIT—Four sealed bids were submitted in the Bruno No. 3 timber sale con ducted at Detroit Ranger Sta tion Tuesday June 27th. The sale with an estimat ed 3,350 mbf of Willamette National Forest timber was awarded to Young & Morgan Inc. of Mill City, for -28,716.- 40. Government appraised val ue was $28,630, plus road credits. The sale located approxima tely 9 miles S. E. of Detroit is primarily of live timber, and involves 2,550 mbf of Douglas fir, 330 mbf of W. Hemlock and other coniferous species, 470 mbf of cedar and an un-estimated amount of pine. The predominant Douglas fir was the only species bid on in the sealed bids. Minimum rates as advertised by the U. S. Forest Service on Douglas fir was $34.12 per M.; W. Hem lock and other species, $17.33 per M.; Cedar $2.00 per M and the unestimated pine $34.22 per M. Highest eligible sealed bids on the Douglas fir was $34.15 per M., Other firms submit ting were Freres Venees, Ly ons, Simpson Timber Co., Al bany and Dana Wood Inc., Idanha. Three sealed bids were sub mitter in ranger districts “Slide Creek Salvage” sale al so held Tuesday morning at the same time, for an estimat ed 55 mbf of Douglas fir and other confireous species. Pur pose of the sale is for the cleaning up of damaged tim ber caused by a slide near Marion Forks. Young & Morgan Inc.; Mill City, was awarded the con tract at $1,515.25. The U. S. Forest Service appraised val ue was $1,509.75 Advertised minimum prise set on the Douglas fir stand was $27.45 per M. It sold for $27.55 per thousand.
