Come save. Rainbow Advisor GATES—Mr. and Mrs. Ern est Schroeder were surprised Saturday evening at the Gates Community Center with a celebration in honor of their 25th wedding anniversary. The hall was decorated with white and silver streamers, a large bell at the door, and smaller bells in the center of the room over the refresh ment table. Pink roses en- circled a tiered white cake which was served to the guests i along with ice cream, punch and . coffee. The hosts for the 1 evening were the couple’s children and spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Glass, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schroeder and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schroeder of Siletz. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Calkins and Mr. and Mrs. David Dodge of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. John Roten, Mr. and Mrs. Extry Sarff, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schroeder, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Glass, Mrs. Ger- aid Sarff, Mrs. Doyle Sarff, Mrs. Ray Mills, and Mrs. Regina Horner. Teresa Metteer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Metteer was installed as Worthy Ad visor of the Order of Rain bow for Girls at ceremonies held at the lodge hall Sunday. Entertainment for the af ternoon featured Miss Vicky Skramafsky, blind pianist from Corvallis. Crowning ceremonies were by Santiam Chapter Order of DeMolay for Boys at Stayton. Patricia Moore, outgoing Worthy advisor was present ed her white bible by Teresa Metteer. Two awards were given Sunday afternoon with Lyn- ette Parker receiving the Worthy Matron’s achievement trophy. The selection for this was made by the Rainbow board. Teresa Metteer received the Mother Advisor’s trophy with the Rainbow Girls making the selection. Mrs. Bill Metteer has been serving as Mother Advisor for the girls. Colors used in the hall and the dining room were those selected by Miss Metteer, la vender and white. Refresh ments were furnished by members of the Eastern Star and the Rainbow Board. E. Kingwood, to prepare the flowers for the Memorial Day service to be held at the Mill City Bridge during the Whitewater Chal lenge. Bring shears, fresh flowers and a sack lunch. Kirsch were hostesses for the meeting of the Me hama Women’s Club Thurs day evening, May 18 at the fire hall. A group calling themselves the Shot Tamales gave a short program of musical numbers and Ray mond Spencer sang a couple of solos accompanied by his sister, Marilyn, at the piano. The business meeting was presided over by the presi dent Mrs. Betty Wagner who also led in the flag salute. Mrs. Raymond Branch gave a report on the Marion Coun ty Federation of Women’s Clubs meeting which was held in Salem recently. Delegates from the Mehama club attend ing the meeting were Mrs. Branch, Mrs. Lilly Wolfkiel and Mrs. Jennie Moe. Mrs. Ed Castle read a report from the Girl Scouts telling of their activities during the year. The members were asked to be thinking about new proj ects for the club to take up when the meetings start again in the Fall. After the meeting the host esses served refreshments to the twenty members and guests present for the eve ning. Santiam Newcomers Meet At Gates Local Folks Attend Wedding in Salem Mrs. Eidon Hutchinson and Vernon were in Salem Satur day to attend the wedding of Miss Yvonne LaDuke and Jerry Camponnette at 3 o’ clock at the First Christian church. A reception followed the ceremony in the church social rooms and a buffet supper was served later at the La- Duke home. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas La- Duke of Salem. The bride’s father is a former resident of Mill City. The groom is from Boston and has been employed in Salem. He is now being transferred t o California where the young couple will be at home. Mrs. Allan Warde of Salem was one of the bridesmaids. The Santiam Newcomers group held its monthly social Community potluck meeting at the Gates Community center Wednes-; day, May 17. The Mill City club donated $125 to the project. There were about 1,800 Lions and ladies present for the convention which opened with a western barbecue on Thursday evening. Theme for the meeting was “Fun in the Sun.” The con vention will be held at Eu- ' gene next year. The date for the Silver Tea and Style Show has been set for Wednesday, June 28, the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Mrs. Rex Kimsey has offered the use of her lovely garden four miles east of Stayton for this coming event. Fashions will be shown by Hagen’s of Stayton. Due to lack of sufficient public interest the Auxiliary voted there would be no Country Supper this fall. The June Tea and Fashion Show will replace the fall project. The new O.B. Lamp will be paid for by the Auxiliary. A Certificate of Achieve ment was awarded the Aux iliary for their work on the Cancer Crusade. Thursday June 1st has been set for a day to tie quilts at Mehama. There will be pot luck dinner at noon. The quilts are to be sold at the Hospital Rummage sale which opens on June 1st in Stayton. Mrs. June K. Bartow is the chairman of the sale.
