2—The Mill City Enterprise, Thursday, May 25, 1967 Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Phil lips, who moved here recent ly from California, spent Sun day taking in the beautiful scenery along the Metolius river. They then went on to Sisters planning to go down the McKenzie Highway but this was still closed due to snow. They returned home via the South Santiam high way. The hall was decorated with white and silver streamers, a large bell at the door, and smaller bells in the center of the room over the refresh ment table. Pink roses en- circled a tiered white cake which was served to the guests : along with ice cream, punch ; and coffee. The hosts for the 1 evening were the couple’s children and spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Glass, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schroeder and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schroeder of Siletz. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Calkins and Mr. and Mrs. David Dodge of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. John Roten, Mr. and Mrs. Extry Sarff, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schroeder, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Glass, Mrs. Ger- aid Sarff. Mrs. Doyle Sarff, Mrs. Ray Mills, and Mrs. Regina Horner. Teresa Metteer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Metteer was installed as Worthy Ad visor of the Order of Rain bow for Girls at ceremonies held at the lodge hall Sunday. Her father presented her with a black walnut gavel which was made by Charles Kelly, member of the Mason ic lodge. ed as Associate Worthy Ad- ed was Associate Worthy Ad visor and Diane Metteer, charity; Darlene Rue, hope, and Vicki Rush, faith. Entertainment for the af ternoon featured Miss Vicky Skramafsky, blind pianist from Corvallis. Crowning ceremonies were by Santiam Chapter Order of DeMolay for Boys at Stayton. Patricia Moore, outgoing Worthy advisor was present ed her white bible by Teresa Metteer. Two awards were given Sunday afternoon with Lyn- ette Parker receiving the Worthy Matron’s achievement trophy. The selection for this was made by the Rainbow board. Teresa Metteer received the Mother Advisor’s trophy with the Rainbow Girls making the selection. Mrs. Bill Metteer has been serving as Mother Advisor for the girls. Colors used in the hall and the dining room were those selected by Miss Metteer, la vender and white. Refresh ments were furnished by members of the Eastern Star and the Rainbow Board. Garden Club To Furnish Flowers for Memorial Day Service Members of the Mill City Garden club are asked to meet Monday, May 29 at 10 a. m. at the home of Mrs. Evelyn Harlan, 235 S. E. Mill City Lions Club and Auxiliary attended the 43rd state convention which was F held May 18-20 at Medford, Of interest to many who have purchased the Lions White Canes was the an- nouncement that over $23,000 was collected for sight con servation from this project alone in the State of Oregon. The Mill City club donated $125 to the project. There were about 1,800 Lions and ladies present for the convention which opened with a western barbecue on Thursday evening. Theme for the meeting was “Fun in the Sun.” The con vention will be held at Eu- gene next year. Going from here were Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ross and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hansen. t Mehama Women's Club Holds Last Meeting For Season MEHAMA — Mrs. Joseph Spencer, Mrs. Oren Small, Mrs. Orval Bilyeu and Mrs. B. L. Kirsch were hostesses for the meeting of the Me hama Women’s Club Thurs day evening, May 18 at the fire hall. A group calling themselves the Shot Tamales gave a short program of musical numbers and Ray mond Spencer sang a couple of solos accompanied by his sister, Marilyn, at the piano. The business meeting was presided over by the presi dent Mrs. Betty Wagner who also led in the flag salute. Mrs. Raymond Branch gave a report on the Marion Coun ty Federation of Women’s Clubs meeting which was held in Salem recently. Delegates from the Mehama club attend ing the meeting were Mrs. Branch, Mrs. Lilly Wolfkiel and Mrs. Jennie Moe. Mrs. Ed Castle read a report from the Girl Scouts telling of their activities during the year. The members were asked to be thinking about new proj ects for the club to take up when the meetings start again in the Fall. After the meeting the host esses served refreshments to the twenty members and guests present for the eve ning. Santiam Newcomers Meet At Gates The Santiam Newcomers group held its monthly social potluck meeting at the Gates Community center Wednes day, May 17. The clubroom was gaily decorated with dog wood, lilac and Scotch broom. Hosts for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Archer, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Burrell and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Datz. Besides the hosts, the fol lowing were in attendance: Mrs. Flossie Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Flecher, Mrs. Vivian Kealen, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Knight, Mrs. Ruth Mc Combs, Mrs. Ernestine Mc- Lenon, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Peck, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Phillips, and James Trues dale. A supper was served fol lowed by several games of cards. The door prizes were won by Mrs. Ruth McCombs and Herbert Peck. Because of many other ac tivities, it was decided to sus pend meetings for the months of June, July and August. Prior to the September meet ing, members will be notified that the next meeting will be Wednesday, September 20, un less for some unavoidable reason another date has to be set. At Gladys Lake Home Mrs. Cecil Lake was hostess at her home Monday for her Millinery club. Mrs. Elsie Völkel was co-hostess. The group of ladies were at one time all members of a millinery class and since that time they formed a club and meet once a month for a cov ered dish luncheon and an informal afternoon. The instructor of the class was Mrs. Julia Inglis, who now lives in Seattle, She came to Mill City Monday to be a special guest. Present were Mrs. Inglis, Mrs. Bertha Holman, Mrs. Nellie Ruhl, Mrs. Winnie Smith, Mrs. June Moen, Mrs. Edith Shantz. Mrs. Helen Gillespie, all of Salem and Mrs. Völkel and Mrs. Lake. Local Folks Attend Wedding in Salem Mrs. Eldon Hutchinson and Vernon were in Salem Satur day to attend the wedding of Miss Yvonne LaDuke and Jerry Camponnette at 3 o’ clock at the First Christian church. A reception followed the ceremony in the church social rooms and a buffet supper was served later at the La- Duke home. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas La- Duke of Salem. The bride’s father is a former resident of Mill City. The groom is from Boston and has been employed in Salem. He is now being transferred t o California where the young couple will be at home.
