Miss Merry Mitchell, the daughter of Major and Mrs. Homer O. Mitchell of Lyons, has been accepted for admis sion to Willamette University in Salem, a liberal arts college of about 1500. Miss Mitchell attends Stayton Union High school and won a honor schol arship. Willamette Is the old est University In the West and is presently celebrating its 125 anniversary. Installation of the Womens Society of Christian Service officers will be held on Sun day morning May 21 by Rev. John Elmore during the reg ular morning worship serv ice. Officers to be installed are Mrs. Ethel Huffman, pres ident; Mrs. Lenard Cruson, Vice President; Mrs. Glenn Julian, Secretary; Mrs. Clyde Bressler, Treasurer, and Mrs. E. L. Roye, Secretary of Pro motion. The regular meeting of the Santlam Valley Grange was held Friday night on May 5, with Sam Wizer, master, pre siding. The usual business was carried out and reports heard. A memorial service was held with Mrs. Lee Pinkston, Mrs. Georgia Hays, and Master Sam Wizer taking part. Flowers were placed and 18 candles lighted for depart ed members. Mrs. Hays, lec turer, was in charge of the program and stressed “Go To Church On Sunday” during May. Mrs. Estelle Spiva read a piece from State Master Allen Wheeler regarding church going and its connec tion with the grange. Guests were present from North Howell.
