ORVA I). BROTHERTON
LYONS—Orva Donald Bro­
therton, a resident of Lyons
the past 34 years, died Tues­
day at a Portland hospital.
He had cancer.
He was born in Mill City
and lived in Portland, Salem
and Bend before returning
to the Santiam area. He was a
retired auditor for the CIO.
He leaves a widow, Agnes,
of Lyons.
Services will be held at
Weddle Funeral Home, Stay­
ton Friday at 2 o’clock. The
Rev. Melvin Elving of the
Stayton Baptist church will
officiate.
KENNETH P. SIMMS
Gordon William Olson, 49,
of 1323 Glen Creek Road N.W.
died Friday at a Salem hos­
pital after suffering a heart
attack Thursday near Valsetz.
Olson was a log scale super­
visor in the mid-Willamette
Valley area for Columbia
River Scaling Bureau, head­
quartered in Portland.
He was born in Canada and
moved to Portland as a child.
He graduated from Jefferson
High School there and attend­
ed the University of Oregon.
During World War II he
served with the U. S. Coast
Guard. He was a member of
Salem Elks Lodge.
Survivors include the wid­
ow. Hazel Olson, Salem; son,
2nd Lt. John Olson with the
Air Force at San Antonio,
Texas; sister Mrs. Adelaide
Wood, LaGrange Park, Illi­
nois; brothers Rudolph of
Project City, California, and
James of Mill City, Joe and
Leonard, both of Portland.
The services and interment
were at Skyline Memoial
Gardens Tuesday.

was hostess for the meeting
of the Womens Society of
Christian Service held at the
parsonage Tuesday afternoon,
