GATES By Mrs. Floyd Swaim Pi oceeds from the Heart Fund benefit coffee held on February 22 at the Gates Cluhbouse came to $30, re ports Mrs. Glenn Henness, chairman for the Heart Fund drive in the Gates area. She was assisted by Mrs. Floyd Völkel, Mrs. Willard Gabriel, Mrs.- Ross McComb and Mrs. Harold Wilson. An aura of Spring was lent to the club house through the artistic displays of pussy willow and flowers done by Mrs. Völkel. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hunt were honored with a fare well party at their home on February 24, given by mem bers of the Mill City Vets of WWI and Barracks 3263 and Auxiliary. Present in addition to the Hunts, were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ragsdale, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Oliver, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Oliver, Mrs. Henry Peterson, Mrs. Alice Watson, James Miller, Mrs. Nellie Allen, Mrs. Lang Staf ford, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Loucks, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brisbin, Mrs. Ellen Rust and Mrs. June Barker. Lee Lyness and Glenda Ro- ten were project leaders for a demonstration on “Window Treatment” when members of the Santiam Canyon Home Extension unit met Thursday at the Gates Clubhouse. Mem bers from the Detroit-Idanha Extension unit joined them for the meeting. Christine Blackburn and Shirley Swaim were asked by the chairman, Lee Lyness, to serve on the nominating committee. A potluck luncheon was served at noon. Dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mrs. Velma Car ey were her sons and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Don Carey and children and Mr. and Mrs. Gale Carey and fam ily of Stayton. Birthday anni versaries for Don and Gale were celebrated. Guests for dinner Sunday at the Floyd Swaim home were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Klutke. Following dinner, the group motored to Elkhorn to view the progress being made in construction of the new golf course. Carol Schaer enjoyed a weekend home from the U of O Friday to Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Siegfried were weekend guests at the home of old friends, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Austin and daugh ter, Laurie in Seattle. The Austins participate in the Foundation for International Understanding through stu dents of the University of Washington and sponsor six foreign students. They meet each student as he or she ar rives in Seattle and the stu dents live with them until college registration. Yearly, students belonging to the Cosmo club which is spon- sohed by the U of W YMCA and YWCA put on an inter national show. This year it was held at the Seattle Opera House with native dances, music and costumes. The Siegfrieds were the guests of the Austins for the show which Mrs. Siegfried said was two and a half hours long and very interesting. Refresh ments were served in the foyer following the program. The Roy Pates were hosts for a small dinner party Sat urday night. Their guests were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Winters and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Weigel, all of Salem. The party honored the birthday anniversaries of Mrs. Weigel and Mr. Waters. Visiting February 20 to 25 at the Lewis Hampton resi dence were her parents and two sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Garcia, Marguita and Olive of Guadalajara, Mexico. The Hamptons entertained their guests with a day of skiing at Hoodoo and trips to the Portland Zoo and the Lloyd Center. The Garcias left by jet for Los Angeles on Saturday to visit other rela tives before returning home March 1. Mrs. Marvin Dodge left Thursday night for Santa Barbara, Calif., to spend a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Chance before traveling with them to Alabama to attend the wed ding of her brother, Vernon Otis Chance. She expects to be gone two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Clare Rush visited in Seattle Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Les Schissler and Paul. Visiting Saturday evening at the Rush home was Ray Ritchie of Sa lem. Guests on Sunday were the Rushes son and daughter- in-law. Julius Titze was taken to Santiam Memorial Hospital Frebruary 18 when he suffer ed a relapse from a recent illness. He returned home February 21 and is convalesc ing satisfactorily at last re port. Mr. and Mrs. Art Andersen were dinner guests Sunday, February 26 at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Spoelstra in Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Castle went to Portland February 17 where they visited with friends during the weekend and Mrs. Castle attended the monthly dinner of a group of former nurses who had grad uated in the same class. The Castles also visited in Oregon City and Canby on the way home. Mr. and Mrs. Parris Bouche of Bend visited recently here with relatives and friends when they were here on a business trip. Mrs. Lyness Hosts Marilyn Club Mrs. William Lyness was hostess to 12 members and guests of the Marilyn club for their monthly no-host lunch eon at her home Tuesday noon. The short business meeting that followed was conducted by Mrs. Jack Gulli- ford as president, with Mrs. Steve Chudzinski assisting as secretary. Correspondence read includ ed a thank you note from Gale Christensen, adminis trator of Santiam Memorial hospital in Stayton, thanking the club for the Lincoln Day tray-favors for the patients. Discussion was held con cerning the Masonic-Eastern Star banquet scheduled for Saturday evening, March 11, at the lodge hall. Represent ing the Mothers’ club, Mrs. Al Yankus said they had agreed to prepare the dinner, and the ¡Rainbow Girls will serve the tables, Club mem- bers were asked to furnish pies and salads. In charge of decorating the tables will be Mrs. Charlie French and Mrs. Lowell Cree, with some of the Masons to put up the tables beforehand. Mrs. Gulliford invited the club to meet at her Gates home for the March meeting. The Gullifords are living near McMinnville temporar ily, but she will return to en tertain the group.
