Many Take Part in World Day of Prayer At Ceremony Friday An Impressive message was brought by the Rev. John El­ more of the Lyons Methodist church for the observance of World Day of Prayer at the United Presbterian Church here Friday afternoon. For his topic, he chose the title “Hands,” speaking chiefly of the many functions of the hands of women, including their possible influence on destiny, then leading up to the hands of Christ. Those who attended the service felt it to be inspirational. In charge of the program was Mrs. Earl Loucks, presi­ dent of the Presbyterian’s Wo­ men’s Association, with Mrs. James Murray leading the hymns and Mrs. Gene Daven­ port playing the organ. A vo­ cal solo was sung by Mrs. Wil­ liam Shepherd. The invocation was given by Rev. James Murray. Others assisting in the ob­ servance, and representing various churches in the com­ munity, included Mrs. Charles Kelly, Mrs. Arlo Tuers, Mrs. J. C. Kimmel, Mrs. Clyde Rog­ ers, Mrs. John Swan, Mrs. Lang Stafford, Mrs. Homer Gallion, Mrs. John Stroschine, Mrs. Donald Dishong, Mrs. William Shepherd, Mrs. John Elmore, Mrs. Murray, and Mrs. Loucks. At the conclusion of the program, a reception was held in Fellowship Hall where light refreshments were serv­ ed from a beautifully appoint­ ed table, the centerpiece of heather and yellow chrysan­ themums flanked by lavendar candles having been arranged by Mrs. James Swan. Pouring were Mrs. Roy Epperson and Mrs. John Swan. Other mem­ bers of the Women's Associa­ tion also assisted with the Banquet And table and in the kitchen. Mrs. Alice Rupp, a past matron from Salem acted as associate conductress for the evening and Mrs. Leora Stev­ ens, also a past matron, acted as Electa. The Masonic-Eastern Star dinner was announced for Saturday evening, March 11. “Obligation Night,” was observed, and the members were instructed in the secret work of the order. Proficiency cards were pre­ sented to Odette Chudzinski, Mary Gulliford, Gordette Gar­ ton and Merle Garton. LaDell Metteer also earned a card but was not present to re­ ceive it. Agnes Carlson gave a re­ port on the Rainbow Girls and announced that Merle Garton had been chosen as Rainbow Dad. Marilyn Club will meet March 28 at the home of Marilee Lyness at 12 o’clock for a covered dish luncheon. During good of the order, Mr. and Mrs. Davidson each spoke briefly. In observance of Valen­ tine’s day Mrs. Lillian Hixon of Trinity Chapter, and Mrs. Mary Gulliford each reecived the lucky valentines and were presented Valentine box­ es of candy. As a surprise, Nina Hoov­ er, who was celebrating her birthday and Rose Cree, se­ cretary were escorted, intro­ duced and each presented a Valentine box of candy. The Worthy Matron an­ nounced a special meeting for Monday evening, March 6 at 8 p. m. for the purpose of con­ ferring degrees. Guests were introduced and welcomed from Trinity and Vista Chapters in Salem and Acacia Chapter in Stayton. Following the meeting re­ freshments were served in the dining room. The Valen­ tine motif was used. Serving on the committee were Mrs. Charlie French, Mrs. Rich­ ard Freeman and Mrs. Low­ ell Cree. LYONS — Members of the Lions Extension club held their meeting Thursday, Feb­ ruary 9 in the dining hall of the Lyons Methodist church. Lesson for the day was “Foun­ dation Garments” with Irene Roy and June Kokstis giving the demonstration. Hazel James and Thelma Haw­ thorne, local members, were in Albany Thursday to attend a wood and furniture refinish­ ing work shop and will give the demonstration at their “Special Interest Meeting.” Attending the meeting were Alma Olmstead, Willa Gilson, Lucille Huber. Alla Mae Beth­ el, Irene Roy, June Kokstis. Lois Morgan, Darleen Frank­ lin, Alma Spellmeyer, Bar­ bara Potts, and Brenda Rog­ ers. Following the demonstra­ tion. Mrs. Bethel gave a short talk on “Safety in the Kitch­ en." She also won the door prize. Health Clinic To Be Discussed at PT A The Santiam PTA will hold their regular meeting Thurs­ day evening at 8 p. m. There will be a short Founders Day program and the Boy Scouts will present a flag ceremony honoring Boy Scout Week. There will also be a pro­ gram consisting of musical numbers and entertainment, by the band and chorus. A discussion on Health Clinic will be held during the evening. Camp Fire Girls The February 9 Jayceette meeting was held at the home of Shirley Hoover. Present at the meeting besides the host­ ess were Jan Waikart, Joyce Pflug, Veryl Lindsay, Louann Goffin, Ellen Tuers, Mary Lou Zechentmaer, Ruth TerLouw, and Paula Grant. Discussed at the meeting were the recent visitation to North Marion and the instal­ lation banquet. Ruth TerLouw and Louann Goffin won the prizes. The next meeting will be held at the home of Veryl Lindsay. Make Dinner Plans The Canyon Leaders Asso­ ciation of Camp Fire Girls held their monthly meeting Tuesday, February 7 at the home of Mrs. Dave Barn- hardt. Plans were made for the annual “Date with Dads” dinner which will be held Friday, March 10 at 6:30 p. m. in the grade school gym. The theme of the affair will be “Around the World With Dad.” Each group of girls will select a different country and work out table decorations and entertainment to repre­ sent that country. Plans also were discussed for beautification around the Youth Center. M. E. Garton is New Rainbow Dad At the annual Father- Daughter Rainbow dinner held here last Wednesday night, Worthy Advisor Pa­ tricia Moore announced that M. E. Garton would be the new Rainbow Dad. The posi­ tion has been held during the past year by Leo Russell, who was named Dad of the Year that same night. Russell also presented service awards to Esther Freeman, Debbie Chance, Darlene Rue, Diane Metteer, Susan Roten, Patricia Moore, Teressa Metteer and Vicki Rush. Masons who had been in­ vited, also attended the meet­ ing which followed.
