some plan to be away for
Christmas.
A day-long tour of garden
club Christmas shows was
enjoyed Saturday by Mrs. Hol­
lis Turnidge, Mrs. Wendell
Heller, Mrs. Fred Moore, and
Mrs. Lowell Cree. Exhibits
were seen at Scio, Albany and
two different shows in Salem.

Lisa, Matt and Andrea Hirte
of Corvallis visited all last
week with their grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hirte. Their
mother, Mrs. Douglas Hirte,
came for them on Friday.
Mrs. Sarah Rains and Da­
vid Vernon were dinner
guests Sunday at the home of
Mrs. Lang Stafford.
A bridal shower honoring
Mrs. Lornia D. (Pete) Brund­
idge was given Friday evening
December 2 at the home of
Nadine Clark of Salem. The
no-host shower was attended
by members of the Salem Re­
organized Church of Latter
Day Saints.
The VWWI Barracks 3263
and Auxiliary of Mill City had
their Christmas dinner at the
Gates Women’s clubhouse
Saturday with about 40 at­
tending. Delegates from sev­
eral other barracks were re­
presented. Several dinners
were taken to sick members
and others who were unable
to attend.
Members of the Santiam
Canyon Home Extension unit
and the Gates Women’s club
will get together at the Gates
Clubhouse for a joint Christ­
mas party at 10 a. m. Thurs­
day, December 15. Dollar gifts
will be exchanged and a pot­
luck luncheon will be held at
noon. Mothers of pre-school
children are invited to bring
them. A toy or coloring book
can be brought for his enter­
tainment.
Mrs. Harry Harmon and
Lorena and Mrs. Sophie Pet­
ers visited Sunday at the
home of Mrs. Peters’ son, Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Peters of Aums­
ville. The group then motored
to Portland with the Ed Pet­
ers family to visit Harry Har­
mon at the Veteran’s hospital.
Also visiting Mr. Harmon
were his mother, Mrs. Cora
Harmon and Mrs. Bob Toep­
fer and family of Salem. For
those wishing to send Christ­
mas greeting to Harry, who
will be in the hospital until
mid-January, his address is:

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Blumen-
stein visited Sunday in Salem
at the homes of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bonnett
and his brother and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Blumen-
stein.
Patsy Pennick is enjoying
the holiday season at the
home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Pennick. Mrs. Pen­
nick, accompanied by Carol
Schaer, motored to San Fran­
cisco December 4 to bring her
home. Patsy is a student at
the San Francisco Art Insti­
tute.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bowes
attended funeral services in
Portland Saturday for Rock
Hibbard of Molalla, who was
struck and killed by an auto­
mobile last week.
Mrs. Beulah Bowes lunched
with Miss Virginia Surface in
Portland Saturday and enjoy­
ed dinner with Miss Lydia
Haidle. She also did shopping
for leather supplies for the
school art class.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bowes at­
tended a Christmas open
house at the Vernon Peterman
home Sunday.
Mrs. Sarah Rains was a
luncheon guest Friday at the
home of Mrs. Fritzie Ward.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wil­
son were at the home of their
son-in-law and daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. Don Carey of Stay­
ton, Saturday afternoon to
join in celebrating their grand
ary. Snacks were taken.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Swaim
spent Tuesday evening at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford
Moreland when Mr. More­
land’s birthday anniversary
was celebrated.
Weekend guests at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Stone were her brother-in-law
and sis er, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Cox of Portland. Sunday even­
ing visitors were the Elmer
Shaws of Mill City.
Mr. and Mrs. Gunter Cline
and Doug were overnight vis-
itois at the home of their
daughter’s family, the Allen
Tourvilles, in Salem Saturday
after a day of shopping. Bowl­
ing was enjoyed in the even­
ing.
Mrs. Earl Allen
Hosts SOO Club
Mrs. Earl Allen was hostess
for the Wednesday afternoon
card club, December 7th. Sev­
eral tables of 500 were in play
following a one-thirty desert
luncheon. High score was held
by Mrs. Ruth Lyons, second
by Mrs. Oscar Naue and low
by Mrs. Orville Downing.
Others attending were Mrs.
Floyd Bassett, Arthur Olm­
stead. Iivin Peterson, Sam
Bridges, Mrs. Gladys Nygaard,
Mrs. Laura Neal and Miss.
Zeat Prichard.
RAYMOND H. POFF
Services were held Monday
in St. Mark Lutheran church
for Raymond H. Poff, 71, of
3365 Duncan Ave. N. E., who
died Saturday in a Salem hos­
pital. Interment was in Bel-
crest Memorial Park.
He was born in Minnesota
and moved to Salem in 1936
from Killdeer, N. D., where
he was a banker for many
years. He was credit manager
for Willamette Grocery Co. in
Salem for 25 years until re­
tirement two years ago, and
bookkeeper at Willamette Lu­
theran Homes for the last two
years.
Poff was an active member
of St. Mark Lutheran church,
past president of Salem Retail
Credit Association, and a
member of Salem Chamber of
Commerce.
Surviving are his widow,
Lena; two daughters, Mrs. El­
sie M. Ohmart, Mill City, and
Mrs. Dorothy M. Werner, of
Portland; a brother, Sam,
Athens, Texas and three
grandsons.
