Several tables of 500 were in play following a 1:30 dessert luncheon. High score was held by Carrie Naue, se cond high by Mabel Downing and low by Bertha Allen. Oth ers attending were Ruth Ly ons, Mildred Huffman, Rose Bassett, Katie Sieg, Berneice Bridges, Dorothy Williams, Zeta Prichard, Beulah Lewis, Alma Olmstead and Laura Neal. Mrs. Gladys Nygaard from San Pedro, Calif., arrived on Wednesday evening at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Per cy Hiatt. She was accompan ied by her son, Glen Nygaard fi om Sacramento, who will spend the remainder of the week. Mrs. Nygard has pur chased the Warren Edwards home and will move there as soon as Mrs. Edwards va cates and her furniture ar rives. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Roye were Wednesday evening din ner guests in Salem at the home of their son-in-law and daughter and family, the Lad die Peseks. The occcasion hon ored the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Roye. Misses Helen and Ruth Hutchins from Salem were Tuesday afternoon guests at the home of Mrs. Earl Allen. The ladies were all school mates at Gates some 40 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Scott and Joyce spent several days over the weekend at Port Townsend, Wn. They were guests at the home of their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin McDowell and children. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tra han from Hartford, Conn., were recent visitors at the home of his brother and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Tra han. They also visited another brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Trahan at Mehama. They left Saturday for Los Angeles where they will visit relatives enroute home. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ever hart from Rockford, Ill., are visiting at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cruson and Nikki. While here they also visited her brothers and fam ilies, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hudson at Medford and Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Hudson at McMinnville. Arthur Olmstead was taken by Detroit ambulance to San- tlam Memorial hospital in Stayton Wednesday afternoon following injuries received while working for Parkett Logging Co., Mehama. The ac cident occured on Straight Creek near Marion Forks. He was crushed between a load er and load of logs. He receiv ed head and face lacterations and chest injuries. He was reorted to be in satisfactory condition later in the after noon. The regular meeting of the Mari-Linn PTC was held on Thursday night at 7:30. They voted to have a cake and pie walk at the next meeting, No vember 17 to raise money to purchase Christmas treats for the children. Presiding over the meeting was Fred Linde man, president. Following the business meeting open house and a tour of the new gym was held. Donald and Walter Olm stead of Auburn, Wn., spent Thursday and Thursday night at the heme of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olm stead. They came to see their father, who is in Santiam Me morial hospital with injuries received in a logging accident. Mrs. Robert Carlton and children from The Dalles were weekend guests at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Downing. A Sunday dinner was held honoring Mr. Downing on his birthday an niversary. Saturday guests at the home of Mrs. Rosa Berry were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schiewek and children from Bend, Mrs. Delmar Syverson and daugh ters and Albert Carr from Mill City. The men folks put a new floor on the front porch for Mrs. Berry. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Down ing were Saturday evening dinner guests at the home of his nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Nydegger in Stayton. The occasion honor ed Mr. Downing’s birthday an niversary. Sunday afternoon visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Good and children were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Miller from Sheridan, also her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Miller and daughter, Ria from Grand Round, also another niece, Miss Loretta Miller from Sheridan. Officers of Santiam Valley Grange will be installed on Sunday afternoon at Crow foot grange, and the regular meeting of Santiam Valley Grange will be held Friday evening, November 4th with the newly installed master, Sam Wizer presiding. A lec turer’s report will be given by Mrs. Georgia Hays and the three Whitney girls from Gates will present a program of songs. The meeting will be followed by a pot luck supper. Calvin Culbertson, manager of the People’s Telephone Co., is spending this week in Sil verton, attending a school of instruction. Rev. John Elmore from the Lyons Methodist church was the guest speaker at the Stay ton Methodist church Sunday morning, October 23. Mr. and Mrs. Elmore and daughters, Diane and Penny were hon ored with a pot luck dinner following the services. This being an exchange of minist ers, Rev. Ernest Bell from Stayton was the speaker at the Lyons church. Sunday dinner guests at the ho meof Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Johnston were his brother-in- law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Claire Humphries and daugh ter, Judy, from Myrtle Creek. Mrs. Van Prichard and granddaughters Oletta and Marcietta Mays made a trip to Ashland over the weekend, going down on Saturday and returning Sunday. Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Stev ens were Mr. and Mrs. C. I. Landsverk and daughter, Mrs. Helene Morris from Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Landsverk have just recently returned from Norway after spending two years there. Lovell Miller is confined to Santiam Memorial hospital in Stayton following a car acci dent Saturday night. His con dition was reported to be not serious. Mrs. Lynn Scott was taken to Salem Memorial hospital early Sunday morning where she will undergo major surg ery the first of the week. will make a great Governor five-state area we serve chose electric water heating.
