Juanita Emerson presided
as noble grand at the Oc
tober 5 meeting of Santlam
Rebekah lodge with Irene
Lewin, vice-grand assisting.
Drill practice was held, di
rected by Ann Primeau, cap
tain. More instructions and
information regarding the Dis
trict Association to be held in
Mill City were discussed at
the meeting.
There were several guests
from Mt. Jefferson attending.
They are one of the seven
lodges which will be repre
sented at the District meeting.
Following
the business
meeting refreshments were
served by Blanche Syverson
and Lettie Swan.
The next meeting will be
held October 19 at the lodge
hall.
A five and a half week va
cation trip highlighted the
summer of Mrs. Doris Wil
liams, teacher at Mill City
Elementary school. Leaving
for New York July 20th via
bus, Mrs. Williams then flew
to Europe, touring various
European countries and the
Holy Land. She returned by
air and bus, arriving August
29.
The Holy Land was the
highlight of the trip for Mrs.
Williams. In Jerusalem she
visited the Garden Tomb, the
Mount of Olives, the Garden
of Gethsemane, and the Pin
nacle of the Temple. A service
held in the boat while cross
ing the Sea of Galilee was
especially memorable. Other
Biblical landmarks seen were
Bethlehem, Nazareth, Caper
naum, the Mount of the Be
atitudes, and Damascus.
Riding a camel sparkled her
her stay in Egypt. Spending
nights in Cairo and Memphis,
she saw the famous Pyramids
of Gizah and the Sphinx.
Mrs. Williams labeled Bei
rut, Lebanon, as the most
beautiful city she visited. Ly
ing on the Mediterranean Sea,
it is called the “sparkling
jewel city” of the Middle
East.
Stops in Europe Included
Paris, London, Oxford, and
Stratford-on-Avon. In Greece
she visited Corith and Athens,
touring the breath-taking
Acropolis. The Colosseum In
Rome was another impressive
sight.
Mrs. Williams’ bus trip to
Community
the East coast and back took
her through six provinces of
Canada and 15 states. Al
though she covered many ex Calendar of Events
