Telephone selling can serve a useful purpose in many in stances. But we are concern ed about those cases in which misuse causes annoyance to our customers. We are trying to do some thing about “pushy” or of fensive calls. We’re pointing out to telephone canvassers that an offended or angry per son isn’t likely to buy any thing. We’re urging business men to call at times conven ient to you, avoiding meal times, early morning, etc. And we’re suggesting that they identify themselves quickly and honestly, avoiding dis guised or indirect approaches. You can help too. The best remedy for the caller who won’t accept your polite “no” is for you simply to hang up. You won’t have to listen to his message, and he will sure ly get yours.” from West Fir were overnight guests last Tuesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Shepherd. Among them will be many who may qualify for social security benefits as the result of a change in the Social Security Law, accord ing to Clair Flaten, District Manager of the Salem Social Security office. In the past, benefit pay ments were terminated when a child reached age 18. Under recent changes, monthly pay ments can no wbe made to un married children, between ages 18 and 22, of an insured parent who is receiving retire ment or disability insurance benefits, or who has died, if the child is a full time stu dent. The contribution of benefits for those now under age 18 and receiving social security is almost automatic. However, social security will need to be notified that the child is a full-time student when he reaches age 18. If social security benefits were stopped because the child reached age 18, and he is still under age 22 and un married, he or his parent must reapply to have the spe PEACHES — PEACHES cial benefit for students rein stated.
