Chamber
Makes Plans
For Events
There will be more glamour
this year at the second annual
Whitewater Challenge which will
be held on Memorial day. This
decision came at a recent meet
ing <4 the North Santiam Cham
ber of Commerce held at Gate*
recently. Jerry Coffman, cham-
Ijer pre«ident .reports that al
ready much interest is being
■hown in this event, which last
year brought out one of the larg
est crowd* ever to come into
thl* scenic part of the great
norttiwest.
Wavne Goin, Stayton, was
named chairman of the court
of princesses. He will be asaist-
ed by Bob Hagen, also of Stay

publicity and advertising.
Jerry Cuffman said he will
work with all committees in
coordinating a good show this
j year.
There was also discussion on
different forms of advertising
for the Whitewater Challenge,
There was talk of purchasing
decals to be placed on cars of
those who plan to make the
nver run. Also there* is a pos
sibility of getting decals for
automobiles of all Chamber
members.
The next general meeting <rf
the Chamber will be held Mirch
18 at Stayion.
This year the Chamber will
put on a 45-minute show at
Lake Shore park on Detroit
I-ake. This in conjunction with
the State Park Commission.
Jerry Coffman will furnish the
slides and projector and the
State will provide the power,
screen and seating. The show
will be put on twice a week
during the summer months, to
encourage
tourists to spend
more time in the area. Aerial
shots will be taken of each
community, followed up by
ground shots of interesting spots
in the area.This program has
proven successful in other parts
of the state.
