Chamber Makes Plans For Events There will be more glamour this year at the second annual Whitewater Challenge which will be held on Memorial day. This decision came at a recent meet ing <4 the North Santiam Cham ber of Commerce held at Gate* recently. Jerry Coffman, cham- Ijer pre«ident .reports that al ready much interest is being ■hown in this event, which last year brought out one of the larg est crowd* ever to come into thl* scenic part of the great norttiwest. Wavne Goin, Stayton, was named chairman of the court of princesses. He will be asaist- ed by Bob Hagen, also of Stay ton. It is believed that buttons will be purchased for the prin cesse* to to sell It Is the plan of the Chamber to make this event self supporting thia year. There was also discussion on different forms of advertising for the Whitewater Challenge, There was talk of purchasing decals to be placed on cars of those who plan to make the nver run. Also there* is a pos sibility of getting decals for automobiles of all Chamber members. The next general meeting <rf the Chamber will be held Mirch 18 at Stayion. This year the Chamber will put on a 45-minute show at Lake Shore park on Detroit I-ake. This in conjunction with the State Park Commission. Jerry Coffman will furnish the slides and projector and the State will provide the power, screen and seating. The show will be put on twice a week during the summer months, to encourage tourists to spend more time in the area. Aerial shots will be taken of each community, followed up by ground shots of interesting spots in the area.This program has proven successful in other parts of the state.
