Floyd Swaim Mr. and Mrs. O. K Hlrte have received u letter from their daughter, Ann«-, telling about her new position in West Palm Beach. Fla. She is employed in the new $200, (XX), 25-bed j/sy- chiatric unit adjoining S t. Mary's Hospital. Under the di rection of Dr James Dodd, a rare method of psychiatric care is being carried out which shuns sheet restraint locked cell and barred window. The hospit al will have a specialized staff of 10. Miss Hlrte is one of six psychiatric technicians. She has a cottage right on the beach. The nights are cool, but she has found it difficult getting used to the warm humid days. Miss Hlrte was interested to note St. Mary's hospital was where the late president's fa ther, Joseph Kennedy was und er treatment for his stroke. She enjoyed viewing the late presi dent's home at West Palm Beach in the course of a tour of the city. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Oliver and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Har mon and daughter, drove to Salem Sunday where they vis- ited at the home of Mr. and Mrs Terry Muir. Mrs. Edward Kroker was an nounced as one of the weekly winners in the Rhodes Bakery’s baking contest and will be tak ing part in a bake off for grand prize. The base off be held in Portland after first of the year, Gerry Butts arrived last Wed nesday at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Itoberts for a visit during the holidays, and with other relatives and friends here. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Phillips were hosts at their home Satur day evening for the monthly meeting and the Christmas party <A the G. K. M. pinochle club. A planned pot luck sup per and gift exchange were features of the evening with cards and visiting also being enjoyed. Members present were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bowes, of Gates; Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Myers. Stayton; Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Myers, Mr. and Mrs. Giles Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Elm-r Taylor and the hosts. Angelo Thompson arrived Thursday evening at the home of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Thompson Angelo has just finished his basic training with the Army at Fort Ord. CaUf., and will report to Fort Carson, Colo., after his leave. Janis Wilson has arrived home to spend the holidays with her parents. Mr. and Mra. Ercill Wilson. She is a student at Ray Vogue school in Chicago. Ill., where she is studying fashion merchandising. She will be returning to Chicago about Jan- uary 6. Willow Phillips is among the college students spending the holidays at their homes here, She is a student at Southern Oregon College in Ashland and is at the home at her parents. De cember 22. from Weddle Funeral Home in Stayton for Mrs. Edna Eddy Carroll 93, wno passed away Friday evening at a nurs ing home in Ix'banon, following a long illness. Rev. Norman Williams of the Lyons Method- 1st church officiated. She was born at St. Charles, Mich., October 10. 1870. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Thiel of Lyons. with whom she mnde her home and Mrs Marjorie Cameron of Park Ridge, Ill.; two sons Hugh Carroll of Park Ridge, Ill, and Lester M. Carroll of I-argo, Fla.
