University A Family Npandtag Plan Oaa Take Miuij Forms Paying bill» la no one'a idea of fun, but a sound money management plan can help you win the monthly battle. There are no statistics to prove it, but it's a safe bet that just about «•very family that succeeds in staging ahead of their bills uses some kind of money manage ment plan. The actual system doesn't matter as much as l»/w well and ix/w consistently the family spending plan is used. A spending plan stk»uld not be used as a remedy but as a preventative against financial ills. Financial records are the first step in drawing up or revising your family spending plan, and these records take all kinds of forms. They range all the way from a simple list of spending to a complex ledger that shows the amount of money availble for each type of expense and u careful Itemized statement of all the family spending. Records arc important. They help families to be realistic about their »¡«ending. "Realism" is, in fact, one of the key words in the vocabulary of planning of spending. A plan can’t make two dollars do the work of three or change radically a family's way of spending money, but it can help the family to sec how they are really spending their money and to see if it is being used to meet the family's real goals and needs. Another key phrase in plan ning is 'first things first." Lee Bassett For every family, there arc fixed items or pay men's that have to be met first. Families have rent, heat, utilities, house payments. insurance plans, ALL PURPOSE saving plans, and debts and ob ligations from the past that have to be met. These come first, and in planning for the spending, the family has to look at these items first. Many fam ilies find that a large part of their income is already com mitted to regular monthly ex RICUIAR - OIL SPRAT -ELECTRIC MOTOR penses. The larger this percent the more rigid the «[»ending plan for the family becomea. It la only after these expenses have been paid that your »pend ing plana can include the day to day living expenaea; food, clo thing, running the household and the car, and taking care of personal expen»«-«.
