Members of the Mill City
Lions club sent a metal c on­
tainer last week to India erm-
taining old eye glasses and lens.
While these had been discarded
by people of the area and col­
lected by Lions club members
they will be put to good use
by Dr. M. C. Modi of the I Jons
club ot Bangalore City. India.
Dr Modi has been devoting
his professional services to eye
patients among the poor for
some time. In a single day he
had performed as many as 237
operations. In fact, his record
510 operations in a single day
was performed at Anatatur in
1959.
He is assisted by a battery
of 100 doctors, nurses, attend­
ants, and of course the patients,
and by streamlined procedures
the eye operation, usually re­
moval of cataracts, takes only
about 45 minutes.
Many of the glasses are re­
fitted for the patients following
the cataract removal.
