A State Marine Board spon sored bill has been passed by the Legislature which will sim plify the registration of boats as well as save the State money in administrative costs. The boating laws enacted by the Legislature four years ago required owners of motorboats to obtain a certificate ot num ber every three years and an annual boat license, which is in lieu of property taxes. The new law, which will become effect ive next January 1st. combines the two requirements into one annual requirement, without any additional cost to boat owners. Those boaters who obtained their numbers this year or last year will have their fee adjust ed next year so as to receive credit for the time remaining. In asking for a change in the law the Marine Board pointed out that approximately $5,000 would be saved annual)- in printing costs, postage, etcetera, and would eliminate some con fusion that pcrvails regarding tlie two requirements. The Marine Board points out, however, that the new law does not become effective until owners will have to continue the fost of next year and boat under the existing law, which requires two separate docu ments, until that time. 1he Old. 5—The Mill (Tty Ejiterprise, Thursday, May 30, 1963 Work Smarter..
