Stayton Band Plays at Mehama New Phone Books Now Being Mailed Valley Telephone Company is now mailing new telephone directories for Aumsville. De troit-Idanha. Mill City-Gates, and Turner. Everyone for whom the tele phone company has a correct mailing address should receive their directory by Thursday, (tonight). Although the directories are essentially the same as last quick comparison year’s, a shows growth in every ex- change. Band Concert Slated For Friday Night Spencer Hillesland. band di- 1 rector has announced that the Santiam Union high school band will be presented in con cert Friday evening. May 3 at 8 p.m. at the grade school gym. The band program will be dedicated to Mayor J. C. Kim mel. who is held in high esteem by the students. These concerts always draw large and appre ciative audiences and is par ticularly looked forward to this year as the band has recently received praise for their per formance. They will play sev eral selections that were pre sented at the recent Festival of Harmony at Stayton. There were 1260 boys parti cipating in the Camporee and this represented about 60 Scout units. There was Council wide com petition in Scouting skills with trophies awarded and Mill City took first place over the entire Council Camporee, which was a distinctive honor for Scout master Tom Drynan and his troop. Mill City also placed first in . the Silver Falls District Cam- W ...... ----- — ribbon poree and won the blue for honor troop. They took first place in Pioneering and Campfire con tests giving the boys, their leaders, and parents a real feeling of proud achievement. Gregg Pearce did an out standing job as assistant scout master and adult leaders ac companying the 24 boys from Troop No. 49 were Tom Drynan, Dellis Hince ami Barney Scott. The boys made a monkey ladder as one of their projects at the Camporee and this was pictured in The Statesman ' earlier in the week. Mill City’s domestic water supply has been cer tified by the Oregon State Board of Health as again meeting the high standards of purity required for drinking purposes. Formal presentation of the certifi cate to Mayor J. C. Kimmel was made the past week by Pacific Power & Light Company's Fred Berg, water system service employee, and Wayne Goin, PP&L’s local manager.
