A carnival for Mill City High school had been scheduled and the students were hard at work. Stephen Beck was supervising the preparations. At Gates, residents were pon dering the possibility of form ing a fire district with A. E. Carey calling a meeting for that purpose. Six inches of new snow had fallen that week at Marion Forks according to Mrs. Scott Young. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kelly had just jxirchased the Edith Mason farm cast of town. Mrs. Nora Goodwin had been severely burned that week when she fell again a stove after suffering a heart attack. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Goodell of Sub limity were in Tacoma, Wn., Thursday of last week to attend funeral services for Chester Barr a brother-in-law o£ Vern on Goodell. Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Fink were Grace Sandburg and daughter, Carol and Miss Ellen Dougher ty of Portland. Mrs. Alice Huber returned home Sunday after spending a couple of days at Santiam Me morial hospital in Stayton for medical treatment. Mrs. Effie Nydegger with her son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Hunt and sons Duane ami Darrell were Sunday guests at the home of Mrs. Lillie Lake in Salem. The I «wcasion honored the SOth birth- I day anniversary of Mrs. Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Allen were weekend guests at Taft, and I reported beautiful weather on the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Eri Moffett and four children from Portland were Sunday afternoon guests at the home of her mother, Rev. Earl Cotton. The Student Council of Mari- Linn sponsored a Valentine par ty an ddance for the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades held at the gym Friday night. Games and dancing were en joyed with refreshments. Chap erones were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Spellmeyer, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Weaver. Mrs. Or ville Downing and Mrs. Donna Asntusscn. The Lyons Extension unit will hold their February meeting in the basement of the Lyons Me thodist church Thursday, Feb ruary 14 at 1 p. m. The sub ject is Social Security. All are welcome. The meeting of the Flying Pins and Needles 4H club was held Friday at Mari-Linn. The members worked on their scis sors cases and Mrs. Lewis Dougall showed the second year group how to do a blind stitch. The lenders, Mrs. Dougall and Mrs. Howard Naue, served Val entine treats.
