I had my benefits stopped when I made my annual report in Jan uary. It now appears that my job will end lafe this year. What should I do? A. Notify your nearest social security office when your job stops. You will be notified when your benefits can be started again. Q. I'm retired, but I’m plan ning to take a job will pay me about $3,000 a year. Is there anything I should do concerning my social security checks? A. Notify your nearest social security office of your new job. Since you expect to earn mom than $1200 a year, you must make an annual report in which you estimate your earnings to social security not later than April 15 of each year. Later, if you find that your actual earnings will be different from your estimate, notify your so cial security office again. An adjustment will be made and you will receive the proper amount of benefit payments. Q. Since my retirement, I have taken a part-time job. Earlier this year I notified the social security office that I ex pected to earn $1500. Now I find that my earnings will be I about $1300. Should I do any- thing about changing my esti- mate? A. Yes. Get in touch with your nearest social security of fice. If your earnings are only $1300 rather than $1500, only $50 will be withheld from your so cial security benefits this year, instead of $150. Q. I am retired and I didn't expect to make more than $1200 this year. So, I didn't make any annual report to social secur ity, and I am receiving my ben efit checks each month. But I now have a job that will pay me about $1800 before the end of the year. Is it necesarry that I report this? A. You should call or visit your social security office. They will explain how your additional earnings will affect your bene fits. Q. I am a widow receiving benefits for myself and my three children, This summer my 17- year-old son got a job as a freight handler. He worked about 60 hours a week and av- eraged $125 a week. He earn ed about $1500 to $1600 for the months of June, July, and Aug ust. Since he was only work ing for 3 months, do I have to report this to social security? A. Yes, you should report the work to your nearest social se- cusity office since it will put his earnings for the year over $1200. Also, you will need to file an annual report of his earn ings with social security by April 15 of next year. Q. Last year I earned $2,000 and received six monthly so cial security checks. When I fil ed my earnings report with the social security office, I setimat- ed my earnings would be $2,000 this year. Recently I received a raise and my earning for this year will be bout $2,300. Should I report this to social security now or wait until I file my earn ings at the close of the year? A.
