Of course this week will say for the benefit of those who look at me askance and dislike to ask—neither my hus band nor the boss socked me in the eye I ran into that pro verbial door at my usual rate of speed. It is certainly in the realm of possibility that both the above mentioned gentlemen would occasionally like to take a poke at me! One thing about it - gift buy ing is both exhausting and ex- hilerating; sometimes just one and other times a little of each. But Christmas preparations are usually a frantic race with the calendar. So if you are feeling a little under par according to the psychologists, seeking a label, it's called Christmas neurosis. A well-know salt company putting in their two bits worth, say that the cure is a brisk salt rub or salt bath, followed by a cool rinse. Sounds like some thing you do to cure meat-- maybe so! When the church chose a date in .350 A. D. for the official celebration of the birth of Christ, since the exact date of the nativity was unknown, I wonder if they knew or had any conception of what events would be like today? Has Christmas reverted back to the pagan celebration, it was meant to replace? Do we be come so engrossed in gift Ixjy- ing, [»ackage wrapping, mailing of cards, feasting and such that we forget that this is first and foremost a religious holiday? So as we bustle about it might be a good idea for each and everyone of us to pause and perhaps take a new approach to the season. Some of the things that hap pened on Christmas in other years: December 25, 1776, George Washington led his troops across the Delaware fiver to Trenton, N. J. for a surprise attack on the Hes sians. December 25, 1818 one ot the all-time favorite Christmas songs, "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht" (Silent Night) was com posed by Fritz Gruber and in troduced at Obemoff, Germany. December 25, 1868. President Johnson proclaimed an uncon ditional pardon to all "who directly or indirectly participat ed in the late rebellion.” (Civil war.) December 25, 1936 Mutinous war lords in China released Chiang Kai-Shek after having kidnapped and held him for 12 days. Hope each and everyone of you has a Merry, Merry Christ mas and if Santa doesn’t bring you what you want—just re member that you still have a great deal to be happy for-- and as you sit down to the feast, calories don’t count this time of year! MERRY CHRISTMAS May Christmas joy fill the days and hearts of everyone. We take this opportunity to thank you all.
