At Home Extension
Club Meeting
GATES- The Sant lam Can­
yon Home Extension unit met
at 10 a. m. Tuesday, November
13 at the Women's club house.
Lou Oliver and Retha Herron
presented the project lesson.
"Your Laundry Basket." The
lesson d»alt with special laun­
dering problems, how to laund­
er new fabrics, how to whiten
nylon and how to care for wash
and wear garments. Following
the potluck luncheon at noon,
a slxirt business meeting was
held. Dorothy Vail will repre­
sent the unit as Program Plan­
ner for a three year term. The
annual Christmas party will be
held next month, plans to be
announced later. Jan Erickson
presented the Do and Show pro­
gram, how to make decorations
and centerpieces out of melt<*d
candles. Ideas for making
Christmas gifts at home were
discussed.

honor of Mrs. Wilma Stewart
Thursday evening, November
15. Toni Thomas, co-hostcss
with Carmen Bamhurdt, fash­
ioned a make-believe trailer
house, which was filled with
cash gifts and presented to the
guest of Ixinor, along with a
card signed by those contribut­
ing to the gift. The Stewarts,
who are moving to Roseburg
this week, will be living in a
trailer bouse, so this type of
gift was given so Mrs. Stewart
will be able to buy something
that will fit into the trailer.
The refreshments, sandwich­
es, cookies and coffee, were
served and the ladies spent the
remainder of the evening visit­
ing.

Has Display Here
The ceramics class of grades
5 to 8 at the Gates school are
showing some the the things
they have made since school
started in a display at The
Paint Pot.
The youngsters have been
doing splendid work, according
to their teacher, Mrs. Beulah
Bowes with all items except
marmalade jars and creamer
and sugars made free hand.
The ceramics are made in the
art class with Mrs. Bowes
teaching several arts
and1
crafts. I^ast year the young­
sters made hammered copper
jewelry and during the Oregon
Centennial year did some beau­
tiful mosaic work.
The school colors of black
and orange arc featured in the
background of the ceramic win­
dow display.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard May
and family will observe Thanks­
giving a day early, on Wednes­
day, so that the Vietnamese
student engineers, who have
been staying at the May lodge
will tie able to have the feast
with them. This will be their
first traditional Thanksgiving
dinner in this country.
The day will also honor little
3-year-old Patricia Ann on her
birthday anniversary.
