Allen Now At Pope Air Force In North Carolina POPE AFB, N. C—Technic al Sergeant Paul R. Allen of Mill City, arrived at Pope .AFB recently for duty as a supply technician with the 464th Sup ply Sq. In service 17 years, with 13 years' overseas duty, he came to Pope after an assignment at Toul Rosiere Air Base, France, His previous overseas tours were in Germany from 1945-50, and in England from 1952-55. TSgt. Allen is the son of Mrs. Agness A. Allen, Mill City, and was graduated from Mill City High school in 1935. He is married to the former Erna R. Strobel, of Furth, Ger many, and they have a daugh ter, Kathy G„ 16. Pope AFB. where TSgt. Allen is now serving, was established in 1919 on the huge Fort Bragg military reservation. The base has a long record of close co operation with the Army, and today the Pope-based 464th Troop Carrier Wing (Assault) has as its primary mission sup port of the XVIII Airborne Corps (Strategic Army Corps) which has headquarters at Fort Bragg. The 464th, a unit of the Tacti-. cal Air Command's Ninth Air Force, flies twin-engined C-123 "Providers" which each year carry over 100,000 airborne troopers on practice jumps, as sault landings or other tactical exercises. Meanwhile the wing’s C-123s also fly logistical mis sions all over the U. S. airlifting thousands of tons of supplies and equipment annually for the Army and the Air Force.
